Would he come to Cardiff City ?

His contract expires tomorrow/Newcastle have offered him a new one.but so far he has turned it down as he wants guaranteed first team football :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

So he will be available on a free, but a massive signing on fee and wages of £30,000 plus a week

Who is Newcastle United star Sammy Ameobi? All you need to know about the man Cardiff City are looking to bring in

Monday 29th 2015

By Simon Gaskell

Cardiff can offer the 23-year-old regular Championship football and are among the leading contenders to snap him up

Name, age
Samuel Oluwaseyi J. "Sammy" Ameobi, 23-years-old.

Background
The son of a Nigerian academic and pastor who studied for a PhD in Newcastle, Ameobi was born in the city and joined the Toon's Academy in July 2008 after finishing school, following in the footsteps of brother Shola.

He made his reserve team debut on September 29 against Blackburn Rovers.

His mother Margaret said Sammy always wanted to be a footballer and joked he would go on to become even better than his older sibling.

She said: "He (Sammy) always said he was going to be a footballer, he’s never changed.

"Right from primary school he said ‘I’m going to be a footballer’ and he joked that he would be better than his brother."

First-team breakthrough
Sammy made his debut for the senior side in May 2011 after coming on as a second-half substitute against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in a 2-2 draw aged just 19.

With brother Shola already on the pitch, they became the first brothers to play for the Magpies in a league match since Ted and George Robledo in 1952.

He scored his first competitive goal in August 2011, after firing the winner in extra time against Scunthorpe in a second round League Cup tie.

In November of 2011 he signed a new three-and-a-half year contract extension at St James' Park up until 2015.

Sammy went out on loan in 2013 with Middlesbrough, playing 10 matches and scoring one goal which actually came against Cardiff City in a 2-1 win for the Teessiders at the Riverside.

His first Premier League goal came last season and it was an historic one - it was the fastest scored by a substitute in open play. It came within seven seconds of half-time when he came on against Spurs in a 2-1 win in October.

He followed that with a stunning strike from distance in a 3-0 win at Hull in January. Alongside those two goals, he was cautioned three times in 27 appearances last season.

What type of player is he?
Much like Shola, Sammy has bags of pace but he is a far more tricky opponent with a bag of tricks which makes him an unpredictable opponent.

In an interview in 2011, Sammy said: "I'm more of a technical player. "I like to get on the ball and run at defenders."

Amazing Sammy Ameobi skill:

Shola himself in a separate interview declared his younger brother had more natural talent.

"I can safely say he's got a lot more ability than I've got," he said.

International honours
Ameobi has represented both Nigeria and England at youth level but has declared for Nigeria at full level.

He had joined the Nigeria U20 squad ahead of the 2011 African Youth Championship and appeared in two friendly games against Saudi Arabia and Egypt.

In November 2011, though, he was called up to the England U21 squad for matches against Iceland and Belgium by Stuart Pearce.

He made his England U21 debut against Iceland in a 5–0 win and later made his first start against Belgium. He has opted to represent Nigeria but has yet to appear for the Super Eagles' senior team.

"It wasn't a difficult decision because I decided to follow my heart and I think it's the right thing to do," he said, speaking over his decision.

"I saw Shola at the World Cup and for him to play at a major tournament like that is a big motivation."

Who else has been interested in Ameobi?
Wolves, West Brom, Everton and Burnley were all said to be interested in Ameobi in May while back in February it was reported David Moyes' Real Sociedad were in talks over a shock move for him.

Ameobi was out of contract with Newcastle at the end of the season but has been made a new offer in the meantime. Details of that deal having been signed are unclear.

In a statement on their website recently, Newcastle said: "Newcastle United forward Sammy Ameobi has been offered a new contract at St. James' Park.

"The 23-year-old, who sees his current deal expire at the end of June, made 25 appearances in the Barclays Premier League last season."

I would take the gamble ,better than spending 3-4 million in a player

I suspect we will be outbid. Strikes me as the sort of player who might do well with our friends (?!) at the Liberty.

Took this from a Newcastle supporters website -

The news last night that Newcastle United had offered Sammy Ameobi a new contract provoked an angry reaction from a number of Newcastle fans.

The supporters casting doubt on whether Shola’s younger brother if good enough to be part of the team/squad, plus slagging off the club for their stupidity in wanting to keep Sammy Ameobi at St. James’ Park.

However, all of them are missing the point.

The only reason Newcastle United have offered Sammy Ameobi a new deal is purely down to Mike Ashley’s favourite subject….cash.

If the club hadn’t made an offer to the winger before his contract ended on 30 June 2015, then they would be guaranteed to get nothing.

However, by making an offer (if you read the club’s official statement properly, you will see it says they have offered Ameobi a new deal, but there’s no reference at all to whether he has any intention of signing it), it means that Newcastle United will be due compensation if Sammy Ameobi knocks back the offer and walks away to sign for another club.

Sammy turned 23 on 1 May 2015 and as such, comes under the rules governing players under the age of 24 who move when out of contract (despite being offered a new deal), with their former club entitled to compensation.

Where a player under the age of 24, has been offered a new contract by his club and he rejects that offer in order to take up the opportunity to sign for another club, compensation will be payable.

Usually, clubs will reach agreement on a compensation fee but when the two clubs’ valuations differ, the matter will be settled through an arbitration process.

I don't see him coming here. Even if we were prepared to pay the wages, the player would still have to be persuaded to join us. Not everyone wants to move to S Wales to play championship football, as we've just seen with Quinn. I don't think we are a particularly attractive proposition to a lot of players unless we are prepared to fork out stupid money on wages. We are more likely to appeal to players who are currently playing in the lower divisions.

Yes definitely. We are going to have give decenr wages to certain players if we wish to get the best.

He reminds me of arsenals kanu.

Not that long ago he was being linked with 3/4 prem clubs. If he's going for free/compensation fee then surely one of these clubs will take go for him again. But then again if it's true and he's after garnered first team football and these teams can't promise it then he may not mind dropping down a division...

I thought one of these players we are after was from a relagtated team?

I wouldn't want him on those wages, he has no end product and flatters to deceive.

Slade had talks with this player and Steven Quinn both players last weekend :bluebird:

Why would we be going after a player who would demand over eg, £25-£40k a week after the Tan Plan for this season.

We were all told than cut backs would be made this season - time for some fans to understand the mess we are in.

It didn't stop Slade speaking to this player and Quinn last weekend though :bluebird:

This is a name I'd love to see in a Cardiff City shirt! :ayatollah:

He's only 23 years old and has Premier League football experience. Sadly though, I don't think he'd want to come to us.

I think that would have been Quinn who was relegated with Hull. Apparently he didn't want to come here either.

He can get in the queue with Joe Allen to join us!

Definitely worth a gamble.

While not the most consistent player for the toon he would offer our team something we have not had for some time... some pace and flair that can get fans off their seats in excitement.

Annis I agree. I know for a fact Slade offered terms to both these players over the weekend, but alas it doesn't look as though either player will choose Cardiff :bluebird:
