Cardiff City miss out on Stephen Quinn as Reading appear to win race for Hull City midfielder

Cardiff City have missed out on central midfield target Stephen Quinn.
The Bluebirds made a move to sign Quinn, who is out of contract with Hull at the end of this month, but sources in Reading suggest he has opted to join the Royals.
Cardiff were among three main contenders to sign Quinn, with Hull manager Steve Bruce also keen to keep him on Humberside.
It is thought Quinn has turned down the offers from Hull and Cardiff in favour of Reading, who, it is believed, have offered the tenacious midfield battler a lucrative three-year contract.
Manager Russell Slade has also been tracking other midfield targets and is continuing his search for an experienced, dominant player to take charge through the middle.
A number of Championship clubs were keen on Quinn and the Republic of Ireland international had indicated he would make a decision on his future this week.
Quinn made more than 40 league appearances when Hull earned promotion from the Championship during 2012-13, finishing eight points behind title winners Cardiff, and has spent the last two seasons playing Premier League football.
He made 28 Premier League appearances during 2014-15.
Walesonline reporting that Quinn has opted to join Reading rather than stay at Hull or join City.
He has been apparently offered a better deal at Reading and is likely to sign a 3 year contract. Think it is a big loss for City. Could do with a bit of quality particularly players with Premiership experience. First indications that the club are keeping the purse strings well and truly tight? Is it going to be another bargain basement shopping transfer window?

Young Hungry players that want to play football like Kennedy. Cardiff City have for the last couple of years, attracted players with money. Now that's not happening, we will probably go for some talented young players with the desire to play, not older wage packet hunters.

These mythical "talented young players" are being hunted by every club from the Championship down.
It is certainly possible to unearth some gems but it's also possible that the younger players do not fulfil their potential or are not actually good enough to perform at the top end of the Championship.
The correct mixture of youth and experience is needed and it's a bit worrying that mediocre experienced players like Quinn would prefer to play for a Reading team that ended the season below us.
Glad he's not coming though. He's a horrible little tw*t.

I fear this will happen with depression regularity as long as Slade is in charge

I agree regarding these mythical 'talented young players' but you forgot that according to loads on here, they have to be 'hungry' as well.
To work with Slade they'll need to be starving!

Slade offered terms to Quinn and SA last weekend, but maybe couldn't sell the dream to him/them
