There was a tragic story recently in news about a dog attack on a baby. I can't imagine what that family must be going through, it's just so sad. It makes me think though as this happens every now and then and confirms that you cannot leave any dog alone with a young child, baby or some severe cases an adult! There's always a chance that something could happen however well behaved the dog usually is. Often the dog gets blamed directly for the accident but is this the right way? In my opinion, The dog doesn't know or comprehend that he/she is doing anything wrong , it's just almost behaving through instinct or naturally in the eyes of a dog and is not read properly by humans. The dog may get jealous as the attention has moved onto the baby and the dog may just think it's a game or a toy. I'm no dog trainer but have a lot of experience with dogs and know you just can't leave anything to chance. I don't kno.w the full circumstances about the recent incident so I'm just refers to this topic in general. You have to be switched on as if you are looking after an unpredictable child/baby. I'm not saying you can't enjoy hAving a dog as that's what it's all about but i guess the awareness is so important. I remember an incident years and years ago in London at a vets. Someone was waiting in the cue with there dog (the dog was muzzled) bearing in mind the dog was probably already stressed from being at the vets. A young child (say 3 year old) came from nowhere and started petting the dog. The owner pulled away and told the child to not touch the dog. But the child walked forward (probably intrigued) and accidentally trod on the dogs toe. The dog had a shock and went to snap but didn't make much contact with the child. It was more noise than anything. The child started to cry understandably as they had a shock too. All of a sudden the family came at speed around the corner and started shouting at the owner of the dog. The father gave the dog one almighty wack and shouted something like I'm going to get the dog put down! How can anyone blame the dog or the child as both cannot comprehend what they are doing. The owner tried to pull the dog away, used a muzzle and told the child not to come near the dog. But where were the parents? In my eyes they are the only ones to blame. People my disagree with me and I apologise if anyone has experienced any major problems due to a dog attack. Just wondered what people's thoughts were on this.
