My advice for what it's worth from my own vehicle experience mate.

Don't bother wasting your money on a screen mounted DVR.

Pay a bit more and get this model -

http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B005GTKY24/r ... B0091PBALS

I find that a front facing mirror cam with a 16GB SD Card is the best combination. fixed permanently in the vehicle - comes on with ignition. goes off with ignition (so you do not forget to switch it on, which is easily done).

The beauty about this particular model is that it is made for the Japanese market (drive on the same side as UK) whereas a lot of the cheaper mirror cams have the cams set for left hand drive.

Clear recording at 3 min intervals (with a 2 second overlap) and nice glass tinted mirror (not plastic).

Been using mine for over 12 months fitted and no problems at all - and gives you a lot of piece of mind while moving with any idiots on the road infront (overtaking, cutting up, etc) .

This one is also discreet. would not know it was fitted if you were not looking.

Do not know about cheaper insurance though?

Safe driving Mate.

Thanks for the detailed reply! I didn't think of that il definitely look into that. Few close calls lately with some reckless drivers lately so I'm just looking for something as back up when you may need it. Thanks again!!
