There are certainly plenty of hypocrites around. UKIP was financed partly by expenses they made in Europe and also by many millionaire donors, hardly matching their 'common folk'image. Strange attitude that one. You applaud someone who is a hypocrite?
She is a multi millionaire paying £1,000's to accountants to avoid tax (boasting about it as well it seems).
Austerity measures will not affect her with her money, as unlike lower income working people she can avoid the cutbacks and the future collapse of the public services and the country (see Greece for an example) if they are not reined in now.
Perhaps she thinks that when she opens her mouth people will listen (like they used to when she was a young teenager singer)?
But unfortunately for her those days are long gone and all people see is a loud mouth bully, wanting to fight someone and send abusive social media messages.
Someone should remind her there was an election last month and the people of the country chose austerity measures to repair the damage caused by the Labour party she supports. What the heck are you on about? Just like true socialism has never been experienced due to groups assuming power and controlling the monopoly leaving the majority poor and struggling, neither has true free market capitalism. What we experience through the western world is corporatism whereby a select elitist few control what goes on and the trickle down isn't allowed to happen because governmental policy and measures taken by the private sector (i.e. price fixing http://news.sky.com/story/725993/builde ... er-rip-off ) stop it happening.

What are you left with? A divided class system as always because the rich want to keep getting richer and holding on to what they can and the poorer continue to struggle onwards. Left or right, it doesn't bloody matter. The USSR did the same and the supposedly 'free' west does the same regardless of what side of the spectrum they fall on. Its all a complete farce designed to divide society and turn the common man against one another whilst the elitist scumbags at the top, whether they're ardent tories or champagne socialists, get away with what they're doing.

People like Dan Hannan never make it anywhere near the top of the Cons because they'd rather put a PR relations expert and puppet at the forefront of the party to peddle complete lies and nonsense in an aim to appeal to the masses. Just like the pathetic Labour Party now won't elect Corbyn, a true Labourite with working people's values at heart, (they'd rather Kendall or Cooper to continue peddling the Blairite crap), the Tories won't let true Cons with true Cons values near the top of the party because of the backlash from the majority. The entire political system is a PR exercise and a complete con.

The game is rigged by those at the top and thats the way they like it. Why would they risk it when they have everything so good? Hannan, whilst a Conservative, is 100% right about the economy because in a well functioning economy a bank can fail because its a private business just like any other private business can fail and be replaced by other competitors in the market. Why the heck should the banks be bailed out costing everything thousands and thousands yet if the local SME goes under the government couldn't give a crap? All the government would be interested in then is if that SME had paid its taxes to the HMRC.

He makes some good points but misses the main points:
- Corporatism naturally evolves from Capitalism, as consolidation takes place. One evolved it seeks to survive through any manner, even political influence (which is clearly outside the scope of natural capitalism).
- Deregulation of financial markets allowed the perverse business of selling valueless derivatives to take place, this is what created the collapse!! Derivative trading was exempt from financial regulation in the US.
- When Adam Smith wrote his books all those years ago, his model was based on the premise that banks should not use money as a commodity, but as blood to feed the system. The real issue is that the "blood" took over the system.
- Other than that I agree that the Capitalist model has generally been good, but it does have a life-cycle and needs to be nurtured through regulation - especially banking legislation.
- I agree the bail outs should never have been allowed to happen, neither should the banking mergers have been permitted, to make them as big as they became.

It certainly has. And credit to her for standing up for the poorest and most vulnerable in our shitty and unequal society. I'm worried about austerity and disabled people losing benefits, more kids living in poverty, leisure centres shutting, rich oligarchs buying up London, playing fields being sold off and much else but I still love it here.

I also have no problem that Charlotte Church is drawing attention to some of these things even if she's rich herself.

That ship has sailed. The sheer scale of debt is astonishing for the youngest generation.

Get your violin out but most students, of which there are now millions, have well over 20k debt by the age of 21.

The gov allowed the universities to ramp up their fees to disgraceful amounts, giving loans to any dumb teenager, only now to take issue with it. Which is why our university are frankly total shite as they allowed anyone in to saddle them with debt they will never, ever repay.
