' Cardiff City Stadium to be sold in 2017 ? ? '

' Cardiff City Stadium to be sold in 2017 ? ? '

The reason I put the ? is I am not 100% sure and hopefully its not true. May be Keith Morgan can put us straight with this.

Ive been told that in March or May 2007 there was a 10 year clause put on the stadium, that the stadium could not be sold and if the club were to go in to administration, the stadium would then revert straight back to Cardiff City Council.

But in 2017 the stadium can be sold and then rented back to us?

An example,I'm not saying this will happen, but if its true then say Tan could reduce the debt by buying the stadium and then rent it back to the club.
The club would then have very little debt, but could then be sold with a lease on the stadium and would be very saleable.

I know the council put a 20 year covenant on the stadium, but I was wondering why 2017 was mentioned today to me?

? ? ?

Correct as a Football Club :thumbright:

But you can never say never about the stadium being sold?

Yes i know but vt already owns it, who would want to buy it? If i am not mistaken the clause you are on about is for a lot longer than 10 years

I asked this question to Keith on Mikes board a while back. Can't remember his exact reply, but basically it was a non starter and he made no mention of 2017. Hopefully he'll come on here and clarify it.

Bit of scaremongering going on here I think. Doesnt make any business sense to sell it. The club will go down in value too. Quick profit but 1. Loses value of club if he wants to sell 2. Does make any sense if he wants to keep the club, he will just been paying an extra bill which isn't needed.

Nothing is pointless and in life and there is no such thing as Never as you cant guarantee never can you?

You never know Slade might just win promotion

Tan made out he would never change us back to BLUE,but he did :D :bluescarf: :bluescarf:

And there is some truth in it,as its either 2017 or 2027 that I know for sure :thumbright:

There was talk last year of the FAW owning it and renting it back. Giving VT some money back in his pocket up front. Would go some of the way to explain the red seats and the obsession with red. Easier sale if it's half ready.

 And where does the FAW has the money exactly, and how would it benefit the association who may only play there 3 times a year. Who ever told you that was on a right wind-up :laughing5:

What a load of rubbish.

It wouldn't necessarily be a bad thing. Obsession about owning a stadium is a red herring. It's the well-being of the club and the progress on the field that matter most. There are other clubs who don't own their grounds, but seem to do ok. The one bad example I can think of is what happened to Coventry with The Ricoh Arena. I don't know all the facts but wasn't that down to a dispute with the council????

Either way, clarification would be great.

Thats what I would like to hear that 2017 is not true :thumbright:

Annis

Under the original deal with the Council they put a 20 year restriction on the stadium being sold off other than for sporting purposes. This was done because Merton Council tipped them off about Sam who , while in charge at Wimbledon , was supposed to build a new ground for them in exchange for being permitted to sell Plough Lane to a supermarket. The Council didn`t put a sale restriction on the deal and Sam reneged on the deal after selling off the ground for development (according to Merton Council minutes passed on to Cardiff Council and referred to in their own minutes).

So basically the restriction was put there because Cardiff Council didn`t trust Sam , but it is a handy restriction to stop anybody else "asset stripping" the club by selling the ground for purposes other than sport. There is nothing to stop anyone selling it to someone else provided

1) it continues to be used only for sport
2) the buyer is acceptable to the Council

I have seen nothing about anything that could trigger a deal in 2017 other than a restricted sale as I refer to above but , when I get chance (may be a few days) I will try and read up again on the deal between CCFC and the Council that enabled CCS to be built.

I have heard it a few times, and each time filed it under bollocks. The only credibility I could see from it would be if the club was in the shit and they were buying in for international football and to save the city.

Basically the answer that has been given on numerous occasions when similar subject comes up! so never going to be sold to unscrupulous people, common knowledge council did not trust sam! :old: and unless someone has brain wave as to what sport can be suitable to use stadium it will always be ccfc home.
