Cardiff manager to put players through gruelling fitness regime

Tuesday June 23rd 2015

Cardiff City manager Russell Slade will put his players through a gruelling fitness regime during this summer’s pre-season, according to Wales Online.

The former Leyton Orient boss has previously hit out at the state of the players fitness when he took over from Ole Gunnar Solskjaer last season, saying that some of the squad weren’t in a fit state to play football.

It sees him set up a strict fitness regime for his players as he hopes to launch a promotion campaign this season after a very poor year in the Championship following relegation from the Premier League

One of the main targets of the plan is midfielder Kagisho Dikgacoi, who has been sent to the Lake District to regain his fitness after a season of injury struggles.

Cardiff return to training tomorrow, but players such as Etien Velikonja, Filip Kiss, Adam Le Fondre and Javi Guerra will not return after being given extended leave.

I can't work out why those particular players have been given extended leave.

What links them, have they been in Summer tournaments?

I wonder what it could be?

I think fitness and player morale / dedication was what made us take so many hits last season.

I'm hopefully that with the time he's had, Slade will field a squad that we know has talent but which will also be motivated and fit enough. Tough schedule though, I think I saw 6 matches in January... fitness will be key this season. :sladein: :ayatollah: :bluescarf:
