Josh Yorwerth: Ipswich Town sign ex-Cardiff City defender

Championship side Ipswich Town have signed former Cardiff City defender Josh Yorwerth on a two-year contract, with the option of another 12 months.

The 20-year-old Wales Under-21 international was released by the Bluebirds in May and will officially join Mick McCarthy's side on 1 July.

Yorwerth, who never featured for Cardiff's first team, had an extended trial with Ipswich last season.

He featured for the Under-21 side and scored against Bristol City.

I cannot believe we let this kid go. I remember first watching him for the Wales U15's at the Racecourse back in 2009/2010 and he impressed me a lot. I was thinking to myself that in 10 years time this kid could be a future Cardiff City captain. Just like Jason Perry, Yorweth puts every single part of his body on the line for his team. Ipswich have also seen talent in him to have given him a 2 year contract. I think us releasing him is going to come back and bite us on the ass, as I personally think that he will do well enough for them and eventually become a first team regular for them. I hope we have at least tried to put a sell on clause when we let him join them. If not then it is another stupid decision by us. Personally I think Josh Yorweth is a much better centre half than Ben Nugent is, so I would have been happy with us keeping Yorweth and releasing Nugent. Nugent has been away from the club on loan for 2-3 years now and he is no nearer to the first team to when he first became a professional. Another player who has been away from the club on loan is Adedeji Oshilaja but at least he has been progressing well, as he was Wimbledons young player of the year last season. Also, Neal Ardley the Dons manager thinks that Adedeji is far too good to be playing League 1 or League 2 football and I agree. Personally, I hope Slade integrates him into the first team this year and he gets given a few games, as I think he will flourish. David Tutonda as well should be brought into the first team squad to fight it out with Scott Malone and Fabio for the left back position. Then we can give Declan John a chance on the left wing - in his favoured position.

I don't see how a club can benefit from a sell on clause for a player that they release.

I'm not going to lose sleep over letting him go from the academy we can't keep all the promising players.
