Honestly Annis, he was my favourite player for City that season and his performance against Fulham away was as complete a performance that you will ever see from a deep laying midfield player.
Oozed class

Rydo, Medel faded after Malky was sacked.

I felt sorry for him on his own at times in the middle of the park. If we had of had someone like Huddlestone alongside him in midfield, then our midfield would have been a lot better. He was and still is a quality player Medel and truth be told he was too good for us. After the first month or two I think he realised that it was going to be a long hard season for him, playing alongside players that were no way near his level. I really do think that if he had of been at another Premier League club, that had of had much better players around him than he did here. Then he would have shown the same type of performances that he was showing for Chile at the World Cup, each and every week in the Premiership.
Even though Gary Medel was only here for one season, I still think that he is one of the best players that we have ever had at the club and it was a pleasure to have seen him play for us - even though at the time he was wearing a horrible red shirt, that the club and the fans had no affiliation with. We really could have done with him last season in the Championship. As we were crying out for a player in the middle who could get a hold of the game, could get the players going, could get stuck in, could get the crowd going, etc. Hopefully one day he will come back to play for us and he can wear the famous blue shirt for every Cardiff City home game. Just like he should have worn it for our first ever Premier League game against Man City. Which we won by the way, in case you forgot.

For a start, Medel was never in condition and was carrying a noticable spare tyre. That could be down to the backroom staff, however, the player himself must take some blame for that, where was his professionalism for keeping himself in shape?
He couldn't pick a "killer pass" - always the back pass or sideways; bitting/crunching tackles?... never saw too many of those either. His apologists will say his game went downhill after Malky got sacked - but why should it have, Cardiff City FC were paying his wages and he had a duty to keep giving his best, which he clearly didn't?
We're a working class club that allies itself to the Medel's of this world, the bad-boy reputation and haircut etc. He got labelled with the nickname by some as "El Poodle" - why was that do you think, was it because fans wanted to be unfairly kind or maybe they didn't understand football as well as those in the pro-camp?
I can tell you, someone like Joe Dwyer would never have given anyone licence to question his commitment, there would be no question marks against him - Medel had lots of question marks against him and for a reason.

Spot on, great post.
Medel was light years better than anyone who has ever played at the club. With just one or two exceptions he struggled playing alongside mediocre colleagues and, I'm afraid much of the blame lies with Malky.
