' A few tips & just a bit of a warning about France 2016 '

:ayatollah: If your travelling to France for the European Championships 2016 :ayatollah:

I went there for the World cup in 1998 and watched England and Scotland's games.

4 of us travelled in a Fiesta, roads were great, petrol cheaper, far better than in the UK to travel from City to City :thumbright:

Stadiums were excellent :thumbright:

Weather better than the Uk :thumbright:

Food better value than UK :thumbright:

There was always plenty of tickets available as there were ticket touts everywhere.

Transport by train/roads and busses far better than UK :thumbright:

But

Accommodation was hard to get in some City's and very expensive(So book early).

Locals not very welcoming to the British.

In places like Toulouse thieves/pick pockets and robberies by the locals.

Drink were very expensive in the bars in the local squares.

Police zero tolerance.

So start saving now :thumbright:

Over all we had a great time :thumbright: :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

France is a great country, and I agree that the facilities and infrastructure are better than the UK, the locals are friendly and helpful but I think that the past reputation of the football hooligan element does not help.
Petrol is a lot cheaper than here and you have to be careful in any major city of pickpockets, the food beer and wine are great and a lot cheaper.
Plan ahead is the key I have registered on the Uefa web site for tickets and will buy them when the second lottery takes place after the draw in December when all the teams are known and we will know the cities that Wales (fingers crossed they qualify)
are going to be playing in.
I would suggest the best option for those on a budget is to camp as there are sure to be camp sites set up for fans.Trains are cheap for those not travelling by car, but for those who who do and want to stay in hotels book outside the cities where the matches are taking place and travel in by public transport.

The only thing I disagree with, was the drink in the Cities and especially where a match was being played, was very expensive.

I lived and work in Toulouse and it is a great city.

Personally I would recommend bunking up out side the city. Merville is a great area and has plenty of accommodation to go for.

Goose bumps already... Cyprus away first. I'd take a 1-1 ... Going to be a great lads 3 day break that one :-) ... Then start planning for FRANCE.

I just want to get Bosnia and Cyprus out of the way first.
For France, be better off staying outside the main venues then just travelling in on match days.
Looks like I could lose my Jo if I travel to France for the month but who cares, done it once with Cardiff City...

On the way back from France 98 , We were rushing for the tunnel and got caught speeding. They pull you over at the next tolls & make you pay a fine there & then. Not sure if it's just the British that as to do this.

Went to France 98 too. Camped around Nantes, Toulouse and Bordeaux. No trouble finding sites as French love camping. To be safe worth booking ahead though.
