A forum for all things Cardiff City

Just want a bit of a rant to be honest. How farcical is this local newspaper?
As if it's embarrassing favouritism to rugby over football wasn't bad enough, it further embarrasses itself by publishing silly articles (Steve Tucker's anti-Wales, pro-GB article and Scott Johnson's Mason over Manga article to name two), constantly contradicts itself (backing the rebrand and then being anti-rebrand), but the online version now offers as much news on Swansea City as it does Cardiff City.
Ok, if it acted as the paper for South Wales then I could understand the equal coverage but the fact it has always been considered that South Wales Echo was the Cardiff City paper and Evening Post was the Swansea City paper then it's very laughable.
It's no wonder the reputation of this amateurish rag has plummeted over recent years. I'm reasonably confident I'm not the only one who feels this way.

The Echo, like every other paper in the land are fighting for their very existance so on-line expansion to cover all of S.Wales is probably keeping the wolves from the door.As for Tucker and co,there just employed first and foremost to get readers hooked and will do or say anything to keep people interested whether its popular or not.A bit like on here really.

Stopped buying the echo about 6 years ago....the journalism is lazy and incorrect....and some of the articles are at times just embarrassing

I never read articles on football. I spend no time on them.
I read lots on others sports but I think it is the fact that I rate my opinion higher than some random journo on football. I've watched it all my life and I can see for myself what is going on.

The Echo and especially the football echo used to be must reads for City fans. But then it always was an evening rather than a morning papers carrying yesterday's news. Who wants Yesterdays Papers as the Stones would say. On the rare occasions that City clinched an away win queues would form at newsagents around 6 o'clock on a Saturday evening to read all about it. Mind you if today's version of the Echo was out back then a more suitable use for it was commonplace.

It won't get any better while Paul Abbandonato is 'sports' editor. The Echo and Western Mail belong from the same stable, so they pool their football writing. The only decent coverage of CCFC comes from Terry Phillips. Wathan is very pro-Swansea, and Tucker is out of his depth. It's a pity. The Echo can be quite good, as with Terry's coverage of the ice hockey, and Mark Jones' coverage of baseball and Welsh League football.
Time was, you could only get the Echo in Cardiff and the valleys. Now it's on sale all over South Wales, which is a good thing, of course. Just leave the Swansea coverage to the South Wales Evening Post, and the egg to the Westetn Mail.
The Evening Post is, apparently, the newspaper with the highest readership in Wales. They concentrate on their core readership. The Echo should do the same!

Was thinking the same earlier. Cant believe some people pay money to read it, must be nearly 60p now?

The Echo takes their stories from the forums.

What happened to Tucker? He used to write decent articles and have interesting views. I guess working at the place for so long has just made him bored. I have a lot of time for Phillips but he's not a football writer. Should stick to the ice hockey.

their coverage has gone downhill in recent years, it is almost amateur. i only read it for the match reports if i miss a match.
plus they wholeheartedly supported the rebrand!

We use the ratings in work to laugh at. We go through them and say ours then name the writer and guess his.....rarely does anyone agree with them.

Tucker probably only does what Abbandonato tells him to. Towards the end of the season, he was reporting on Swansea games, while Wathan was reporting on ours. Crazy, really.

Even the personal ads for a big and busty massage are incorrect nowadays...

Used to love the days of the pink football echo!
