Scadding Quits Newport County

I am surprised nobody has been willing to invest in Newport. It is essentially a city club so the potential is there. I know the catchment overlaps with Bristol and Cardiff but they are a club that are worthy of league football. Concerns over their long term future now.

Steve, he never was really a County fan.

They need investment ASAP.

Yeah, I remember covering him winning the EuroMillions for a site I do work for so I kept track of him. Always seemed like a toy and now he's gotten bored of it.

How much did he win? 50million or something wasn't it? In football terms that's fukall. No way I'd take on a professional football club if I won 50 mill. They're nothing but money pits. I'd have to be a billionaire to even consider it, so fairplay to him for giving it a go. If they had their own stadium they'd probably attract a decent backer

Richard Osman said in an episode of Pointless that the only way to make a small fortune through a football club is to start off with a big fortune.

I agree, I'd go nowhere near a football club unless I had a lot more in the bank. At best I'd invest some transfer funds or money to develop youth facilities but would never look to own one.

Apparently he put £1.25 million into it but even stepping down as a Chairman doesn't mean that he can't make a profit on it. All depends on his shares and what he sells them for. The only way to make money out of football is buying a lower league club and selling when they improve which in all fairness he seems to be doing but for some reason no-one is taking the bait. He will just leave them along until they get desperate and someone will come in for it

Work with quite a few County fans, some are quite realistic and know they basically haven't got a pot to pee in, which is why their player of the year, the Newport born and bred Darren Jones turned down a new deal and joined a Conference side. Some of their fans are quite deluded though, one was telling me the other day that they were gonna sign Kevin McNaughton, Alan Tate and Danny Gabbidon
Think County will struggle this season, I think staying up has to be their main aim this season.

Two words - F*ck Cewnty! The amount of stick I have received from Cewnty fans I know re the whole rebrand/Tan/ relegation issues I hope that the club disappears back into the depths of non league non status. Sh*t town, sh*t club and the fans are still in the dark ages with their hatred of us :bluebird:

^^^^^ This - with bells on.

They rejoiced at our seemingly weekly visits to the High Court under Ridsdale & wanted us dead. Likewise with Tan from rebranding to debt. Karma is a bitch, eh Cewnty? F*ck em, the world will be a better place without them & the mutants that "support" them.

I agree. I've read their forum a few times. Full of pricks who constantly try having a dig at us, while at the same time putting on some sort of false love in with the jacks. The gipo's couldn't give a fuk about them just as much as we don't, yet they don't seem to realise that. if they had any sence they'd understand Newport (as a city) would be nothing without their connection to Cardiff. The close proximity to us insures people invest in the area....its a stones throw away to the more illustrious big brother.....they could even end up being Wales second city because of it. But having said all that. Its like that annoying little brother you think you hate, but deep down you wouldn't want anything bad happen too them. That's how I feel about newport. I hope things work out for them

I've worked in the Newport area for over 20 years. Before I worked there I never minded County, but now, if they went down I'd love it. The amount of shite that most of these County fans spout about us is unbelievable, a lot seem to think we were all laughing at them when they went bust in 89. I was a City season ticket holder even then, yet I have no recollections of anything like that at all. Some County fans are alright and wish us well, I genuinely feel sorry for those, but the majority have chips on both shoulders regarding us, so my attitude is feck em. If any of you have any doubts about their opinions of us, check out their message board. The love in between them and the Jacks is also laughable, they were fighting like feck a few years back at an FA Cup game.

I actually hope they stay in the football league long term despite their hatred for us, it's all just jealousy (just like when Swansea were below us for many years), I wouldn't take it too personally.

To be fair havnt had a lot to do with them and I only know one county fan and he's ok .as for Newport people I have come across a lot of them through my job as I go up there quite a bit more so to Llanwern works and believe they are hard work they really do think they are something
