Wales to be Ranked higher than Spain, Italy, France and Switzerland

By James Cannon

Sat June 13, 2015

Following their impressive victory over Belgium last night in Cardiff, Wales will be ranked higher than the likes of Spain, France, Italy and Switzerland in next month’s FIFA Ranking, as reported by ESPN journalist Dale Johnson via Twitter.

As Johnson mentioned, Chris Coleman’s side will also climb above England should they fail to win their game against Slovenia tomorrow afternoon, with both the Dragons and the Three Lions in pole position to qualify for next summer’s European Championships in France.

Ranked higher than Spain

Shocking! We never qualify for major events so how

We always said world ranking were nonsense when we were low and its still the same now it's not a true reflection let's be honest higher than Spain? Really?

Not saying we aren't good because we are now but
This is saying we are one of the best in world football and we are not

The rankings are a farce. There's no way Belgium are the second best team in the world and there is no way we are better than spain.
Coleman plays the system very well. By not playing friendlies, our average points per game is better plus most of the teams weve played are above us in the rankings which helps.
Not a true reflection of where we are, but we are using this system to get into a higher pot for tournament qualifiers. Something Toshack was trying to do for years, but speed/coleman have done it.

We have benefited from Belgium being artificially high therefore being them accrues a lot more points than usual.

We have also gained by the top seeds in the group, Bosnia, having a poor tournament.

It has all fallen perfect for the World Cup Qualifiers. We will settle back to mid twenties early thirties which is still excellent.

They aren't fair or accurate, so let's enjoy it for once. They have worked against us for years and cost us the opportunity of qualifying for tournaments.

We have always been way down the list we have had really tough groups and it becomes a vicious circle, affecting confidence.

It's great that us and teams like Iceland can force a way out and have a better draw in the future.

Just found this :ayatollah:

Germany 1411
Belgium 1244
Netherlands 1204
Argentina 1157 + 3 games to play
Wales 1155
Portugal 1115 + 1 game to play
Romania 1111 + 1 game to play (in progress 0-0)
England 1044 + 1 game to play
Brazil 1027 + 3 games to play
Croatia 1023
Spain 1021 + 1 games to play
Colombia 1006 + 3 games to play
Italy 1001 + 1 game to play
Slovakia 934 + 1 game to play
Uruguay 933 + 3 games to play (1 in progress winning 1-0)
Czech Republic 933
Algeria 917 + 1 game to play (in progress winning 2-0)
Switzerland 911 + 1 game to play
Ivory Coast 910 + 1 game to play
France 882
Austria 854 + 1 game to play
Chile 828 + 2 games to play
Russia 782 + 1 game to play
Scotland 774
Denmark 761 + 1 game to play ( in progress winning 1-0)
Tunisa 752 + 2 games to play
USA 711 + 2 games to play
Costa Rica 665 + 2 games to play
Greece 640 + 2 games to play (1 in progress losing 2-1 to the Faeroes!)

I've used the FIFA prognosis tool, and assumed that each country will lose whatever games they have coming up. Teams like Brazil, Uruguay and Colombia will move up as they're expected to do well in the Copa America.

Also, some teams will lose points even if they win their upcoming game - e.g. Italy.

We have played it to our advantage u can't argue with that... But it's also a rolling points system where by previous results are removed by the latest.. Hense Spain's drop, previous results of winning major tournaments are now replaced with their latest results so they actually lose pts.

Exactly. It's similar to the tennis world rankings. For instance, Nadal only got to the quarter-finals of the French Open this year after winning it last year. He therefore loses points and falls down the rankings.

The rankings are heavily weighted towards the most recent results - so basically the rankings are a bit like a form guide (like them or not).
