How good can Wales get?

Sat Jun 13, 2015 3:09 pm

Apparently we could move as high as 11th in he next FIFA world rankings, which would be an amazing achievement. I was wondering if you think we could climb any higher in world football.
Personally I think firstly we must qualify for EURO 2016. Then the next step is to qualify regularly for major tournaments, then consolidate as a top 1o side. Thoughts? :ayatollah: :bluescarf:

Short-term we're in a very good place. As you say, we will be high up in the rankings when they come out next month. We will, in fact, be in Pot One for the World Cup Qualifying draw in July.

Having said that, lets not get carried away when it comes to where we'll be further down the line. You have to remember that countries like Spain, Italy, Germany, Holland, England etc have a far bigger catchment area than we do - and that's just five countries off the top of the head.

Let's just focus on how well we're doing now, and worry about the future after :thumbright:

I think I saw on Twitter in the lead-up to the game that we would be minimum 11th in the rankings if we beat Belgium, regardless of other results. I'm not sure what effect the rest of the qualifiers over the weekend have had (we'll find out next month, of course), but I'm pretty certain we'll be 11th at the very least.
