Bluebirds set for second bid for forward Joe Mason from Championship rivals Wolves

Should Cardiff City sell Joe Mason?

YES or NO

Friday 12 June 2015

By Steve Tucker

Cardiff City are set to see their resolve to hold onto Joe Mason severely tested, with Championship rivals Wolves reportedly about to make a second bid for the striker.

The reports also claim Wolves’ first offer was lower than the £1.5m suggested, but the Midlands club are now set to go higher than they did originally to get their man.

Jackett is keen to add to his attacking options at Molineux following the departures of Kevin Doyle, Leon Clarke and Jake Cassidy. Starman Bakary Sako looks set to hit the exit too.

Whether Russell Slade will let Mason go seems to rely on the likelihood of him getting his number one target this simmer, Ipswich frontman Daryl Murphy, the Championship’s top-scorer last season.

Ipswich are apparently prepared to listen to offers in the region of £4m for the 32-year-old’s services.

But Cardiff face competition for Murphy’s signature.

Relegated Hull are apparently monitoring the situation and now Fulham are said to also be keen on signing the Republic of Ireland international.

Mason meanwhile was expected to feature quite prominently in Slade’s Bluebirds next season.

Having returned from his latest loan spell at Bolton at the turn of the year, and having overcome injury, he saw plenty of action at the back end of Cardiff’s Championship campaign and forged a partnership with fellow marksman Eoin Doyle.

Mason, who is contracted in the Welsh capital until 2018, signed for Cardiff from Plymouth for £250,000 in July 2011 and has gone on to make 85 appearances for the Bluebirds firing 19 goals in the process.

Mason, signed for Cardiff from Plymouth for £250,000 in July 2011

Is this another player Malky overpaid for?

I'd sell Mason but not to buy Murphy. Don't forget, Annis, we are not shopping at Harrods any more. I doubt we can even afford Poundland.

Mason was a bargain and it was £200,000. :thumbright:

Peter Ridsdale signed him and done the deal, which was a good deal.

I can't see us turn down the second bid tbh and if he does go he will always be remembered for Wembley. :thumbright:

Rydo,as I thought,they never actually offered £1.5mill,when a real/genuine bid comes in,City will accept.

How did Risdale over pay for him at £200k when we are about to sell him for £1.5 million, I would say that's pretty decent business myself  :bluebird:

Murphy's a decent striker at this level but 4 mill is absolutely ridiculous for a guy with 12 months left on his contract and 32 years old.

Strengthen our midfield, bring in a decent winger so we can actually provide service to the strikers we already have.

Can't see us spending £4m on any player. Think we may need a striker though as I am not as convinced as most of you are about Doyle. He improved a bit towards the end of the season, but I don't think teams are so bothered during the last few games, particularly if they have nothing to play for. He hasn't convinced me yet, not sure one way or the other.

Not just us but any club would have to have rocks in their heads to part with 4m for a 32yo.As for Joe Mason, well, every player has his price and 2m would do it for me.

Ian,Your right, Ridsdale did the deal for them as he needed urgently cash for Plymouth to survive,so he tipped us off and let Mason go cheaply.
Ridsdale was behind it all.
