If it's a salaried job im not sure what else you would expect.
These sorts of roles should be done voluntarily by people who gain a salary from elsewhere and can afford the time. People like Branson or Sugar.

They're there for a reason and paid that amount for a reason and that is obviously the going rate for that position. I dated a woman late last year who was CEO of a local non profit organization and one of the reasons I don't anymore is because she worked longer hours than anyone I have known, usually from 6.00 am to 10.00pm 5 days a week if not on the road. It is the only job she has ever had & has worked her way up from a secretary to CEO over 25 years and has turned the organization from one with a few hundred thousand dollars a year turnover to one in the multi millions building and running low cost housing for the less well off not just locally but across the whole of California.
Some of the comments here are just disgusting and from people who have absolutely no idea what this person does with their pay check. Usual knee jerk reaction from people reading what they want into a story.

I'm sorry but I couldn't disagree with your view more. You seem to have totally missed the point about charitable giving. I give to charity and I do it to help the end user i.e. children, people in disaster zones, animals etc. I do-not donate so that someone can earn a quarter of million pounds a year, no matter how many hours they work.
Also lets look at what these 'hard working' individuals are doing? Cold calling and pressurising to donate, swamping your inbox and mail with emotional blackmail and millions wasted on TV adverts on Sky News.
That's not why I donate and I strongly object to money being wasted on such things. The sooner there is a clampdown and the CEO of Children in Need International is told to go and do something else, the better.

£234,000 worth of donations goes straight towards paying this persons salary! charities should provide a full breakdown of where every penny of donations goes so people can make an informed choice as to whether it is worth donating.
it just stinks keeping salaries like this quiet. poor people give to these charities whilst this woman profits to the tune of £234,000 a year.
