"" Danny Gabbidon and Alan Tate staying in South Wales "

Cardiff City and Swansea City legends Danny Gabbidon and Alan Tate linked with Newport County moves

move for two former legends at Cardiff City and Swansea City.

Reports are suggesting the Exiles, under new manager Terry Butcher, are looking to tempt Danny Gabbidon and Alan Tate to Rodney Parade.

Gabbidon, a former Wales international, was released by the Bluebirds last month and is looking for a new club and has already indicated he might drop down the leagues in search of regular football. The former West Ham stalwart is from Cwmbran, another factor that could work in County’s favour.

Tate meanwhile has been let go at Swansea and is also looking for pastures new too. The 32-year-old defender was a favourite at the Liberty Stadium making more than 300 appearances for the Swans over more than a decade at the club. He is still based in South Wales and is said to be on Butcher’s radar.

Alan Tate's Swansea City impact and love of the club was huge... it's why he will always be a Liberty legend

The stumbling block for both players, of course, would be the matter of wages.

But Gabbidon himself recently stated he might be willing to look at life in the lower leagues.

“I still think I’ve got a lot to offer, another year or two playing. I feel like, with not really playing last season, I could probably play another season,” said Gabbidon.

Too right mate. Experience and commitment. County could well benefit from this if true.

What a centre back pairing that would be for League Two. The only potential issue could be getting them both fit and playing regularly together.
