Scrap Westminster.

To be honest compare that to a council leader, headteacher and so on I would give them a rise. However the assembly is different, they are z-class politicians who many didn't even win their election outright, don't take full responsibility for their new responsibilities given to them by law and the reason why the public sector jobs have ballooned since the creation of the WAG which comes to a huge additional cost to the taxpayer. Also making shit, expensive crazy ideas like buying a shithole airport out of our taxes don't help their case either.

The airport need cheaper routes more than anything else.

Many politicians in the WAG haven't even won an election to get their post. Many of the same politicians have lost a general election.

The amount of public sector positions have ballooned to the cost of the taxpayer.

Those are facts and by the way the WAG are even stating that they will not be scrapping the toll costs of the crossings anyway so what's your point there ?

Well the Irish fought for and gained their independence and have been paying for it ever since in my view.The scottish may yet go the same way.I wouldn't want my grandchildren growing up thinking that they'd have to emigrate somewhere just to have the chance of making a decent living like the Irish do.Still I'm 57 now and I don't suppose I'll give a shit in 20yrs time.

It was nothing to do with them getting a pay rise - more like that the WAG is stuffed full of incompetent halfwits.

Proud to be Welsh and British, this lot are just an embarassment. 25% of the vote is not good enough, neither are they.

Try living aboard and watch the British stick together and trying to help each other out. It's only then you really understand what British really means.

British before Welsh. Your choice of course but that is why Wales is an after-thought in they eyes of the British government and why Westminster is able to ride roughshod over Wales in all matters...because they know that we will not put up any serious opposition to whatever they want to do. If more people were Welsh before British then we would have the balls to stand up for ourselves. Like I said...not enough people with pride in Wales.

I have no idea what living abroad has to do with anything. If Wales, or more likely Scotland was independent, English people wouldn't speak to us any more? Does that argument stand up when you see Irish people abroad? I'm happy to concede this point as it is complete nonsense.

Just to note, I'm not a nationalist and fully understand that Wales would suffer as an independent country. I am firmly behind devolution and think the United Kingdom should be a federal state. I believe this will make the UK a better democracy. Remember, we live under a system where we have an unelected head of state and an unelected second chamber.

Don't forget, It is the English who are now driving ahead with devolution.

I have to highlight some more hypocrisies.

(1) The people who say that the calibre of politician is too low in the Assembly, will then (in the same breath) criticise suggested pay increases. Can they tell me how to increase the calibre of politician in the Assembly? I know that everyone on this board is closer to Carwyn (in background) than anyone in the Tory cabinet (unless you were privately educated, own land, are related to the aristocracy or went to Oxbridge).

(2) Most who argue against Welsh/ Scottish nationalism are usually anti EU. They now argue for the very same thing that the Scottish nationalist argued for last September. They declare that Welsh/ Scottish nationalism is petty, whilst completely ignoring their own British nationalism.

Hopefully I have highlighted at least some of the hypocrisy from the original thread.

You make some good points but you'll never win over the anti-Welsh brigade on here. Judging by the political threads on here the majority of Cardiff fans are out of step with the rest of the country. They are overwhelmingly UKIP (one seat in parliament) and overwhelmingly anti EU (not going to win that one either). Very good try though.

The service providers is completely different to the people in charge of putting the procedures in place surely ?

When people complain about the NHS for example then they aren't actually complaining about the nurse looking after them are they ? They are complaining more about the time it's taken them to get to the operating theatre for example.

Also if people don't know any different them why would they be complaining ? Take a school for example, if your child was happy in school then why would you complain however you only really see the schools results at the end of the year!!! So really unless you keep a sharp eye on your child's school then you wouldn't know any different
