Murphy, 32, hit 27 goals for Ipswich as the Tractor Boys reached the play-offs, only to be beaten in the semi-finals by their fierce East Anglian rivals Norwich City.
Now, former Sunderland striker Murphy could be in demand this summer, with it being reported that he is Cardiff City's top target.
Ipswich Town value Murphy at £4million two years after Celtic released him.
Ipswich and manager Mick McCarthy will surely try to keep the Irishman at Portman Road, but an offer of that magnitude for a player over 30 may be hard to turn down.
It's a remarkable turnaround from Murphy, who was essentially on the scrapheap at Celtic just two years ago, having failed to make an impact in Glasgow.
Murphy joined the Bhoys from Sunderland in 2010 and whilst he scored three goals in 21 games in his first season, he spent the next two out on loan at Ipswich before making his move permanent in 2013.
With 27 goals to his name this season, Murphy has shown Celtic what they are missing - and just two years after being released by Celtic, Murphy could now be sold for £4m. Few Bhoys fans could have expected that when Murphy left in 2013.

Could spend that money wisely elsewhere easy last year prolific yes but how's my times we seen a player have 1 decent season and value through the roof and doesn't love up to up. Not really sure who I would go for to guarantee the goals that we need but £4 mill seems a lot for me

If we did give £4mill, which I cant see us doing so,we may as well have kept Guerra and Le Fondre.

I agree but if we are guna spend that money I think there a better hungrier players out there look what wolves paid for Afobe 19 years old and loads of goals. City scouting seems that bad they just go for a player who had one good season cus his stats look good. Would anyone of signed Murphy for over £1-£1.5 mill last summer no chance we need our scouting department to get off their arses and go looking for raw and talented players

I wouldn't go for Murphy tbh I hate judging players really but he's 32 and only had one good season 4 mil is too much for that! Gayle for an extra mill would be the smarter option, we've got the same chance of getting Gayle as Murphy anyway because Murphy will think and say after the season would he want to leave Gayle needs game time he'd think here would be a good chance at that

Silly season! £4m for a player that is 32 years old and has only had one prolific campaign?
I really hope we don't go for him. I'd rather keep Mason!

4 million better spent on Gayle

Just an opening gambit by Ipswich.I'll bet they'd settle for a lot less.

Please let this not be true!
Watching Cardiff trim down their squad and wage bill is OK for the sustainable future of the club, but after all that pain they want to splash out £4m on a 32 year old striker is just beyond!

Surely the £4 million would be better invested if we took someone like Gayle on loan and put the money on wage budget to keep better players like marshall, fabio, etc.

I bet he'd be yet another player who's goals would immediately dry up as soon as he signed for us.
The new Alan Lee perhaps?

£4m for a 32 year old is ridiculous

Ridiculous business slade must be an idiot.
Hel be 33 next season you watch what happens to these players it's the ones who let themselves go
pre season come 32-33 they come back an it's down hill.
The likes of giggs lampard etc have a little longer as they look after themselves 12 months a year
