Now that Swansea City have taken over the running at Merthyr

Fri Jun 05, 2015 10:19 am

football Academy, using Swansea coaches etc, is this a clear indication that the Jacks are trying to sweep up any potential local talent in the Valleys. Also the PL have just invested a huge amount of money in all PL academies for the coming few seasons, and with the Jacks already having development centres in Heath Cardiff and Pontypridd, they now look set to open a purpose built full academy centre in Cardiff to attract the best local talent in South Wales.

Also tickets to non sell out games are to be distributed to schools in SE Wales to grow there fan base which they see as essential if they are to grow as a PL power. What are we doing as a club to stem this tide ? something I would hope :bluebird:

Simon sadly it's exactly what I've heard and been putting out, They will control not just parts of Cardiff but even Merthyr Football Club

I know, I think they are after world domination, starting with South Wales first, if it wasn't so series it would make you cry with laughter, or is that with embarrassment :bluebird:

My mate's son is training with their academy at the Heath Park sessions. They are a family that moved down from Chesterfield so he has no allegiance to Cardiff really and it's depressing how a kid that good hasn't been given the chance to play for the club of the city he lives in. Slack.

Swansea coaches are now taking the coaching, still run as Merthyr, however any promising boys will be moved onto their own full academy in Swansea, it stops any other football league/PL clubs sniffing around, The Jacks get to get first dibbs on the talented lads, and it will help them get a strong hold in that area of South Wales, which they will see as essential.

It's a great idea by them. That is perfect for both clubs, and no doubt the Merthyr youth-set up will see the benefits of the professionalism involved.

Huw Jenkins and Co outsmarting Tan and his legion of number-crunchers and arse-lickers on every level. It's all getting embarrassing being outmanoeuvred and out-thought. Cardiff has lost it's territory

Could be good for the international football side, and some who wont cut it in the PL may come to City or Newport, but the chance of making a big profit player is going down the pan

Gilwern, The Jacks approached Merthyr a while back and have set up a deal with them regarding all their kids/youth etc.

Merthyr won't pay a penny towards youth development and will be left with some talented well coached youngsters in the future by the Jacks' youth development coaching philosophies. It's good business by both clubs.

silly question with world domination wanted outside swansea! what is happening to all the talent in swansea as can only have so many kids at one time? or are they recruiting all the academy staff from everywhere else and having ten or 20 centres all over south wales? surely not that many qualified people or they are using joe bloggs to over see training? yes we are poor in our set up but makes it sound as if we dont exist in cardiff even! :o

We need to get out there more and take control of our areas.

That can't be the case though. Someone who would set the Southern Football League alight for Merthyr, may not cut it in league 2 for Newport. I think having top level coaching is good for welsh football, but it will massively dent the chances of City making another saleable asset like Ramsey

All the talented local youth that are taken on are lets be honest not given a chance to progress.

Just a few years ago a Welsh Victory shield team with an overwhelming majority from our club thrashed an England side.

Only a couple seem to have progressed to make first team debuts the rest have been released.

There seems to be a black hole in the academy & youth development at Cardiff, talented players seem to get lost & are not allowed to go out on loan & fairplay to Swansea they do give the kids a chance even if its with the football league teams.

They will take the best players out of the Merthyr youth system, that would be normal practice for a youngster of high potential as Merthyr is a non-league club Allan. This agreement just means players will head to Swansea ahead of Cardiff & others.

we're only talking of a few going to Swansea, the ones left will be technically good, and for the late developers they could go on to become top players. They certainly will benefit being surrounded by professional youth coaches.

yes not paying penny but who gets the talented kids for free? what is merthyr left with well trained kids who probably give up football having been deemed not good enough for swans, Merthyr lose any chance of developing own talent and make some money from any sale to league club, only positive is good coaching but suppose that will make merthyr a better team?

All about opinions, you might be right Allan.. my view is that talented kids will leave Merthyr in any circumstance as it is too small a club to keep a real talent. (Talented players need to be grouped together to progress)

This system saves costs for Merthyr and has the potential to give them an excellent academy of players with a good grounding in technical, modern football.

Time will tell I suppose, speak later, off out :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

I'm genuinely not worried about Swansea City, I mean good for them and maybe we'll get a few more quality Welsh internationals from it, but whilst they might be more successful this moment in time it won't last. If Tan hadn't screwed everything up in 13/14 we would be a lot closer and eventually Swansea will go back to the Championship.

So by that logic does it follow that the kids who are dropped (as they are ) from Cardiff or any other Academy give up playing because they're deemed not good enough to make as a professional . I think not .

A few years ago I would have said the same, but all them seem to do is make money and invest in their infrastructure. If Tan gets the cost cutting right and we can get back to the PL before the money rockets we may have a chance, otherwise I fear we will be looking on for quite some time even if they do go down.

Good level of football. I watch the league above. And have seen a coupele of Merthyrs rivals in cup games.

I thought Annis had some involvement up at Merthyr? Also I always thought they were a feeder team of our?

Mind you after all the shit Merhtyr went through with that tw*t they deserve something to cheer. Good for Welsh football.

Can we be a Swansea feeder team?

Re: Now that Swansea City have taken over the running at Mer

I have warned about this for years now in fact as Annis knows ever since I was a Councillor in Merthyr so pre-2012!!!!

Tan and his Malysian bollox concentrated on finding the Malaysian Maradona not thinking that they would never get a work permit for them. While in the meantime the areas where under Sam Hamman, City used to take all the young talent was left open to the market!!!

An absolute disgraceful move by Tan and now the club is seeing the result of their pure ignorance of local talent

What talent up the valleys? Bale, Bellamy, giggs, Ramsey etc - none from around that. The people up that way would rather be out joyriding and sniffing glue than playing football.

I agree military for all his faults Sam the one thing he always did was watch football wasn't it from the city youngsters to local teams to try to get the next best thing one of the things he was most passionate about I went to his meeting in the royal oak just after he bought us and that was a huge priority of his. Weather it was to get the passion of a local lad playing for his local team or to get a cheapie in and sell him for a big profit is a matter if opinion. But this is something CCFC need to act on fast in regards to getting scouts out there talking to the local coaches and parent instead of standing on bankings and walking round with clip
Boards looking important on a Sunday morning.
