Leeds United and Celtic are set to battle for the signature of former West Ham forward Nicky Maynard, according to HITC.
The former Crewe academy product has had a less than successful three years at former club Cardiff.
Maynard is now set to be one of the most touted free agents this summer, with a host of Championship sides looking into his availability.
Both Leeds and Celtic are set to offer Maynard a fresh start in football, with both sides looking to add to their striking options and goal tallies, with both sides lacking in the goals department.
Maynard is seen as a perfect option for plenty of sides with his pace, skill and confidence to take on a defender being desirable factors on why clubs are interested.
His spell at Cardiff has seen the former flourishing forward stumble with injuries and the changes in managers forcing the player to miss out on plenty of football.
Maynard’s longest first team spell was out on loan at Wigan Athletic in 2014. While on loan at the club, Maynard was managed by the latest Leeds United head coach Uwe Rosler who is said to be a big admirer of the forward who scored four goals in 11 starts for the club.
With Maynard now refunding to full fitness and dying for a chance to perform for a Championship side, clubs including Leeds United, Nottingham Forest and Blackburn Rovers.
With Leeds United the only club to escape their FFP enforced transfer embargo, the Yorkshire outfit could edge out the move for Maynard having being able to offer him higher wages.

I can see him going to Leeds because Uwe Rosler took him on loan to Wigan.
