In my opinion if we want to spend that kind of money we need to get someone who is proven year after year.

Murphy isn't exactly getting any younger either at 32 - what will he have left in him at this level? 2 seasons at best?

My feeling exactly. Maybe he could be a good partner for Doyle but at 32 I'd be amazed if we spent more than £2m. Even then I'd be worried. Like you said, he's not renowned for his goal scoring exploits.

I agree spending big on a 32 year old would seem to be a contradiction and like most other posters I would hope it doesn't happen. The Barnsley midfielder seems a much better bet.
