What next for ex-West Ham United and Cardiff City striker Nicky Maynard?
BY RYAN INGHAM ⋅
Thurs 4th June 2015
After being released by Cardiff, Nicky Maynard has finally ended a nightmare spell at the Welsh side.
Where will Maynard go next?
The 28-year old has suffered a horrible spell at Cardiff, being forced to sit on the sidelines or farmed out on loan while at the Welsh club.
The former Crewe and West Ham striker is known for his attacking prowess and is a guaranteed goalscorer when kept happy and in form.
Maynard possesses power and pace and is a formidable foe for any defensive partnership, if given the perfect partner in crime or the service to cause damage.
Maynard has been forced to undergo an inactive season at the Bkuebirds, having only made 3 starts and 7 substitute appearances, collectively playing 341 minutes in a Cardiff shirt, scoring 1 goal in the process.
Now a free transfer, Maynard is bound to get picked up by a Championship side that are in need of a player who can score and create goals in this league.
Clubs like Birmingham, Reading, Bolton and Rotherham could be looking to secure Maynard’s services, with each club looking for new firepower.
Another club that could see a move for Maynard are Bristol City, with the player spending 4 years at the club from 2008-2012. Maynard made 124 appearances for Bristol, scoring 45 goals in the process.
The Robins are currently in need of a new striker and a cost effective move for Maynard could be a perfect move for Steve Cotterill’s side.

Too injury prone. Even if he did come back and haunt us, he'd do less damage in that one game than his inconsistent availability and lack of goals would do over the course of a season for us. I had high hopes when we signed him but he's been hampered by injuries and we can't afford to carry that any more. Wish him the best of luck wherever he goes but think he's better off playing at League One to ease himself back into the game and not at the more intense Championship level.

He should go back to Bristol or something like that or a team in league 1 that's pushing for promotion.

That article sounds as if it was Maynard's agent who wrote it!
As already mentioned ... too injury prone and they have affected his game, he doesn't have that speed off the mark anymore. I doubt there'll be too many Championship clubs queuing up for his services. However, I wish him all the best wherever his future might be.

I always thought he murdered us whenever he played for the wurzels and when he first came to us it was the inopportunity at West Ham that meant we didn't see the best of him.He got an injury that I wouldn't wish on any player and then found himself way down the pecking order.I've gotta feeling he'll be back with someone and I wish him well.

Not sure, but I hope he goes to a Club that is going to treat him better than we did. I always thought that if Maynard was given more of a chance when Solskjaer and Slade were managing him that he would have after a while started score us goals. At the start of last season against Blackburn, he should of been paired with Kenwyne up top, with La Fondre on the bench. But no he played on the right of a front three. I wish that Slade had of given Maynard the 23 games that La Fondre was given and alongside a partner, that he would have thrived and scored a lot more goals that La Fondre scored for us. Even now I would rather have kept Maynard and gotten rid of La Fondre as I feel Maynard is a much better all round player than La Fondre. Whichever club eventually sign him, will have signed a striker, who if given the chance to play regularly, would definitely score goals for them. The signing would be made sweeter with the fact that he is on a free transfer.
I Would just like to wish Nicky Maynard good health and good luck for the future. He was a truly top bloke. Always took the time out to talk to the fans and he respected us and the clubs traditions.
