Cardiff manager dismisses talk of a Liverpool bid and insists Marshall is still firnly in Bluebirds plans for next season

Cardiff City boss Russell Slade insists there have been no enquiries from Liverpool for David Marshall and is hoping his captain will carry on playing for the Bluebirds next season.

Reports have linked Marshall with a £5m move for the 30-year-old Bluebirds goalkeeper, with Reds manager Brendan Rodgers looking to put pressure on his current number one Simon Mignolet.

Rodgers has seen a number of his shot-stopping targets either linked to other clubs or become unavailable and it has been reported his attention has turned to the Welsh capital.

But Slade confirmed the Scottish international is still firmly in his plans and insisted: “I’ve seen reports regarding David, but we have had no enquiries or approaches for him at this point.

“Everyone is aware of the quality he has and he was important for us last season. David is not disgruntled at Cardiff or anything like that.

“He is very settled at the club in fact. David is very professional and dedicated to what he does.

“We would certainly hope and expect that he is with us next season. That’s how things are right at the moment, anyway.”

Marshall showed stunning form in the Premier League for the Bluebirds and was subsequently also linked with Arsenal and Tottenham last summer, but he instead stuck with Cardiff for what proved a disappointing Championship campaign.

He joined the Bluebirds from Norwich six years ago and has gone on to make 237 appearances for the club. As well as impressing in the Welsh capital, Marshall has gone on to establish himself as Scotland’s first-choice under Gordon Strachan.

Marshall is currently with Scotland as they prepare to face Qatar in a friendly on Friday ahead of their Euro 2016 qualifier against the Republic of Ireland on June 13.

Good to hear but not sure he'd admit it if something was being discussed anyway!

Cards on the table. If you had to place a bet on Marshall staying or leaving this summer, what would you bet on? :D

Marshall will have no choice if the fee is decent.

What are you on about? of course he has a choice, he is under contract to City and even if a club offered £10m he could still decide to say no

Doesn't the club decision's matter more over the player's?

and considering he wants to stay for family reasons he will not go unless of course it suits his career and no2 at pool doesn't suit him! also he is an asset to city playing wise so hardly likely to be forced out by club, despite what is said on here about tan stripping cub! A contract is a contact :o

No it does not, he is under contract so legally they have no say in it if he wants to stay then he stays. They would have to cancel his contract and then he would be entitled to a very large settlement depending on how long is left on his contract, if that happened City would get no fee and be out of pocket by loads, so that will never happen
