Cardiff City transfer news: Javi Guerra prepared to take pay cut to make Malaga move permanent

30 MAY 2015

BY CHRIS WATHAN

The Spaniard has expressed his desire to stay at his hometown club and has talked about wanting to play at the highest level

Javi Guerra will tell Cardiff City he wants to stay in Spain – and could be ready to take a pay-cut to force a move away from the Bluebirds.

Striker Guerra arrived in a blaze of hope last summer after Vincent Tan persuaded him to switch Spain for South Wales following the end of his contract at Real Vallodolid.

But despite impressing with 17 goals in his homeland last season, he was frozen out at Cardiff City Stadium and managed just 41 minutes of Championship football before being shipped out on loan to Malaga in January.

With two years remaining on his Bluebirds contract, the 33-year-old’s hopes of making his exit permanent had thought to have been ruled out over finances.

But with Guerra making it clear he does not want to return to the Welsh capital, he has told reporters in Spain he would be prepared to push through a move and hinted at taking a drop in wages.

“My priority is to stay here, but it depends on Cardiff,” he said. “I have two more years of contract in Cardiff and in the summer ahead things will be discussed.

“I have to go back there and in principle until I do there is no decision. But my priority is that I feel good here, this is my home and I am playing in a top division. It depends on Cardiff and I will have to wait to see what they say and if they want me that is what I will have to do, but my priority is to stay here. “

“There’s time to sort things out. There’s all summer ahead of us. I have no problem making sacrifices,” he added. “It’s a question of values. A player always wants to be playing at the highest level.”
