Cardiff & Wolves’ Link To Palace’s Dwight Gayle Makes Little Sense
By Hopkins
Since the conclusion of the 2014/15 Premier League campaign, there has been plenty of talk in the media regarding the future of striker Dwight Gayle, who has struggled for first-team appearances since the arrival of Alan Pardew.
It doesn’t take a genius to realise that, as a consequence of our tactical style under the new boss, Gayle is likely to be one of the players who consistently misses out on a starting role, regardless of his goal return in both of his first two seasons in SE25. With that in mind, it is with something of a heavy heart that we should probably be happy for the 24-year-old to move on to pastures new.
First, it seemed as though top flight newcomers Bournemouth were the favourites for his signature, bounding into the Premier League with the fresh-faced enthusiasm and innocence of a newborn puppy, they looked to be a good match for Gayle on the surface, with Eddie Howe’s possession-based philosophy having every chance of honing in on Dwight’s strengths.
In recent days though, the transfer rumour mill has churned out two far less obvious names, in the guise of Cardiff City and Wolverhampton Wanderers, who, most would assume, simply couldn’t afford to splash the sort of cash needed to take him off our hands.
Whist there is little doubt that Pardew would be happy to shift Gayle on, should the price be right, the chances of us allowing someone as prolific as him to leave for anything less than £4 million seem slim, which begs the question of whether or not either club could even dream of forking out that sort of sum on a single player, given their league status.
Forgetting the fact that Dwight himself is probably keen to remain in the top flight if at all possible, there are surely no clubs in the Championship or below who can feasibly spend that much money in one hit and remain on an even financial keel, regardless of their historical stature or the personal wealth of their superstitious owner.
The madness of the summer transfer window is just getting underway, but if this story is anything to go by, it promises to be a long and utterly bemusing few months.

I would like to see him here but believe he will stay in premiership possibly with one of the newbies

I would have thought that a years loan deal would be the best option for all concerned

More like who wants him and can afford him? If no premier club wants him he will have to consider alternatives!

Surely he has ambitions.
Can't see Slade selling the dream to any player.
