' JOE MASON '
We signed Joe Mason from Plymouth Argyle for just £250k and he is on £8-£10k a week.
Mason scored goals in the Championship for City under Malky Mackay, went on loan to Bolton Wanderers on two different spells and scored goals there too.
I believe Mason is a natural goal scorer and with the right partnership and tactics he could be a 20 goal a season striker.
Rumours suggest that Wolves are preparing a £3m bid for Joe, it would be a fantastic profit on such a small outlay but I believe Mason should stay especially as he is on relatively small wages in comparison to other players in the squad and replacing him for someone similar would cost us more.
Energetic, pacy, technically good and a battler, I say keep hold of Joe Mason.

All dependant on the direction of the club, If the club were signing players that improved the team markedly then nobody would have-a-go with letting players like Mason go.
The problem is that the players bought are not better than Mason. I rate Mason higher than Revell and Doyle as he has more creativity than those players.
I just don't see the point in selling existing players only to buy players of similar quality.

I was a big fan of Mason and still think he should have featured more in the PL.
However, he was not that convincing when he returned after a bad injury and football is littered with career's which didn't really happen because of injury.
On gut feeling alone I would take the £3m and hope it is invested else where.

I'm still not convinced about Mason. I don't think he's sharp enough to play alongside a big man as a "poacher" and I'm not sure he's clever enough to play just behind.
Arguably he was most successful when he played out wide, as part of a 5, under Malky which is where he scored his Carling Cup Final goal from.
I certainly don't think he is quick enough to make it as a Prem forward but he may show his worth in a particular formation at Championship level. So far Malky, Slade, Freedman and Lennon have all used him sparingly (OGS also loaned him out I think) despite him chipping in with a few goals so, I would guess, they are also yet to be convinced.
I really hope I'm wrong because he's certainly got the right attitude and he's the sort of player you just want to succeed., I'm just not sure he's got what's needed. Go on Joe prove me wrong, I'd love that to happen

Joe has no pace and that's the only negative about him, otherwise he would be a £5m - £10m striker. But I agree with everything else and say it makes sense to keep him. Would be brilliant behind a big striker but have my doubts about him and Doyle as a pairing as neither has pace and therefore they are easier to mark.

Sell, sell, sell. Anything over a 1m would be a huge bonus. Joe has not set the world alight at any of the club's he has been at and I could not seeing him scoring 15+ goals per season.

He didn't do much at Bolton and couldn't be described as a regular

After seeing Rudy Gestedde go onto be a £8 million pound rated striker shows that anything is possible

Anything close to 1 mill

My thoughts echo yours piledriver64. I'm a big fan of Mason's attitude but he's not been the same player since his injury a couple of seasons back. I wouldn't be devastated if he and Doyle started up front for us next season but I think if we want to push for playoffs then we need better. I think he'd tear League One up and could get 10 goals in the Championship if he played regularly but that's his limit.

Pacy? I must be looking at a different player then. I dont see why people rave over mason, he does have potential but not proven for me

I like Mason and would keep him but if that £ 3 mill link is true with Wolves then I would let him go because I don't think he is worth that tbh.
