The Eagles are willing to listen to offers for Gayle but want to recoup much of the £6m they spent on the player

Cardiff City could be set for a £6m swoop for Dwight Gayle as Crystal Palace prepare to offload the 24-year-old forward.

Gayle, who has been a fringe player at Selhurst Park in the latter stages of this season, has failed to win over Eagles boss Alan Pardew with the Premier League outfit willing to listen to offers for the former Peterborough man.

But while Palace will consider bids for the player, they won't allow Gayle to leave on the cheap with newly promoted Bournemouth as well as Cardiff's fellow Championship side Wolverhampton Wanderers also keen.

Bournemouth chief Eddie Howe is said to be a big admirer of the player and would offer Gayle Premier League football and the regular playing time he craves.

But Gayle is contracted with the Eagles until 2017 with Pardew keen to recoup most of the club record £6m they spent when signing the player from Peterborough in 2013.

The tricky forward, who has pace to burn, has hit 18 goals in 54 matches for the Eagles but has found himself increasingly sidelined since Pardew took over from Neil Warnock.

Would Dwight Gayle be a good signing for the Bluebirds?

YES
NO
Gayle scored 13 goals in 29 appearances for the Posh before joining Palace but is reportedly keen to seek pastures new.

He wasn't involved in Palace's 1-0 win over Swansea City on the final day of the Premier League season with Pardew preferring the likes of Yannick Bolasie, Jason Puncheon and former Bluebird Wilfried Zaha as his attacking options.

They paid that for him I think 3 million he will go for

Yeah, it seems strange. I wouldn't want us spending more than £3m on him. I'm sure we could get Daryl Murphy for that amount and he'd be a better strike partner for Doyle.

Let's be realistic. Tan won't be spending. Reversal of the rebrand put paid to that.

I would be astonished if Cardiff paid £5mil+ on 1 player.

he's only 25 Wez, I would be shocked if he got sold as cheap as that. 12 goals in 48 appearances at Palace is not bad at PL level for smaller clubs. Frazier Campbell scored 4 in 18 apps, Gayle has the better strike rate out of the two at present

yes, Palace did get Frazier cheap. Maybe I have over cooked Gayle's value, at £3 million it's a sound investment in my eyes :ayatollah:

Palace fan here

Guys he isnt going to be sold for £3m, he's scored 18 goals in 2 season from basically sub appearences

If we do sell him we will want the £6m back we paid for him.

More nonsense ... same as the Ledley rumour.

I hope we aren't spending that amount of money on a player.

This time last year, when Tan was letting Ole sign players left, right and centre I would have believed this rumour, but with the cost cutting going on now, there's no chance of any truth in this. It's not just the transfer fee, it's the high wages he's on. Just paper talk.

Surprised we haven't been linked with Ronaldo yet. We seem to be linked with every other available player, even though most of us know all our signings will be made from the lower leagues. There's even a thread saying we are set to compete with Everton for the signing of a striker. Everton must be quaking in their boots thinking they may have to battle with us for a player's signature. Why would anyone want to go and try to get in a small Premier League side like Everton when they can play for a mid table championship giant like Cardiff. The silly season gets sillier every year, but with Ledley, Gayle and the Honduran striker plus big names yet to be associated with us, we are going to walk away with this league just like we did last season.

And now Zamora & Joey Barton. The rest of the Championship may as well concede the title to us now.

No chance the latest from tan is sensible. 6m is not sensible. Half that and he would be a good signing and less risk

With what Tan has said I can't see it happening spending £6 mill but if we could cut it down to just £3 to £4 mill then there might be a chance.

Well if Ings is going for 12 million with a month left on his contract and Austin is going for 15million I don't see why they can't get 6million for gayle. It won't be from us though, would be surprised to see us spend 6 million overall in this window

no way is any good player going to sign for city this season
we have a chairman who will not turn debt into equity
a manager who as no tactical knowledge
fans who want both out

Re: " I think this Rumour is way off the mark for Cardiff? "

How about a season long loan? C Palace might not be keen on selling to Bournemouth who must be viewed as a direct rival in the lower half of the Premier League.

Probably a hefty fee would be involved (£1m) but I can see a loan working.

Re: " I think this Rumour is way off the mark for Cardiff? "

Thu May 28, 2015 2:48 pm

Can't see us spending more the 500k on a player. Tan will loan money into his other clubs before us now.

Re: " I think this Rumour is way off the mark for Cardiff? "

Thu May 28, 2015 3:04 pm

Talk of £6m is madness and I feel even £3m is pushing it done player at this level. He may not work out so the club would be stuck with a massive wage bill again and little or no improvement.

When are we going to learn that stability normally results from patience and hard work. Forget turning up to the sweet shop with money burning a hole in your pocket!!!!

Re: " I think this Rumour is way off the mark for Cardiff? "

I don't think we will be paying millions for anyone this season. I think we are more likely to be looking at players costing a maybe 2 to 300,000 pounds as well as free transfers and loans. I don't believe that Tan is looking at any more than consolidating our place in the championship, and hopefully we will stay clear of the relegation battle.
