Watford are set to suffer a huge blow by losing manager Slavisa Jokanovic.
The Serbian is out of contract at Vicarage Road and has not agreed a new deal – despite guiding the club to the Premier League.
He was offered a one year rolling contract and indicated he was happy to commit his future to the Hornets. But talks have broken down and he is on the brink of leaving the promoted club.
Watford are said to have already made an approach to former Atletico Madrid manager Quique Flores.
Jokanovic’s departure would be a massive shock to the Hertfordshire club. He brought in much needed stability and exceeded the club’s expectations by guiding them to second place in the Championship.
He was their fourth manager in a turbulent start to the season when he took over from Billy McKinlay, who was in charge for just two matches.
McKinlay appointment came off the back of Oscar Garcia’s resignation, with the Spaniard only taking the job in September having replaced Giuseppe Sannino.
Jokanovic was only the third manager in Watford’s history to guide them to the top flight so his imminent departure will be a huge blow to supporters.
Flores would arrive at Vicarage Road with a wealth of experience. The 50-year-old began his coaching career with Real Madrid’s youth team before taking on jobs with Getafe in 2004 and Valencia a year later.
He moved to Portugal in 2008 to take charge of Benfica before returning home to become manager of Atletico, where he remained in charge until 2011 and won the Europa League with the likes of David De Gea and Sergio Aguero among his ranks. Flores subsequently moved to the Middle East to manage Al-Ahli and Al-Ain.
He almost took a job in England when Steve Clarke was sacked by West Brom. His latest job was back at Getafe before he left for personal reasons.
Roberto Di Matteo is also on the Watford short list ut Flores is the preferred option if tings cannot be resolved with Jokanovic

I'm quite surprised by this.

Clever move

Get out on the up, Watford would need a miracle staying up. Cynical, but a clever career move!

That would be a coup for them to get Flores as manager.

Tend to agree. But uncertain he will get the time to make his stamp. Watford need substantial building to compete, and that takes either money or time.

The Pozzo's would give him time unlike Cellino I don't think they have sacked a manager since Sean Dyche when they took over.

Allways fun to watch how promoted teams do. Somehow I don't beleive in Watford though. Will also be very interesting watching Howe!
