WalesOnline understands Cardiff City boss Russell Slade is considering a bid for Murphy after he netted 27 goals for Ipswich last season
Cardiff City are eyeing a shock move for Championship top-scorer Daryl Murphy, WalesOnline understands.
Boss Russell Slade has spoken through his transfer targets with owner Vincent Tan, stressing the need for three high quality arrivals to boost the Bluebirds’ hopes of making the top-six next season.
And it is thought pulling off an ambitious swoop for Ipswich striker Murphy has emerged as one of the main aims for the club this summer.

Murphy, 32, led the way in the Championship goalscoring charts this season with his tally of 27 helping Mick McCarthy’s side to the play-offs before losing out to bitter rivals Norwich in the semi-finals.
However, it remains to be seen whether Cardiff could be able to make a bid to persuade Ipswich to cash-in on the Republic of Ireland international who was recently named in Martin O’Neill’s side to take on England in a friendly next month.

It is not clear what the Portman Road outfit value Murphy at but McCarthy issued a stern hands-off warning to Murphy’s admirers after their play-off defeat and they are unlikely to let the former Celtic and Sunderland star out on the cheap.
But Slade has insisted he is prepared to spend big where he has to as he seeks the star quality that could turn the Bluebirds into a potential promotion hopeful next term with striker an area in need of key reinforcement.
Cardiff could use the potential sales of Adam le Fondre and Kenwyne Jones to fund a move with chairman Mehmet Dalman having previously stated that Slade will be backed in the summer window.
The Bluebirds are said to be lining up a move for Ipswich ace Daryl Murphy.
The experienced frontman topped the Championship scoring charts last season with 27 goals for Mick McCarthy’s side.
And those exploits have attracted Cardiff boss Russell Slade, according to the media

Is this one of those, "Look who we are bidding for" statements we see year on year?
Oh, we must mean business, we are going for players of note..... It's not our fault they say no or their club says no.

I think we should be targeting younger strikers IMO.
He probably suits Ipswich's attacking play, if we had him he wouldn't score anywhere near as many.

Over the summer break I'm expecting 3/4 signings that are going to give us Cardiff fans hope. Well that is what the club have been saying over the last month or so.......this one does not do it for me....so that 3/4 still to come.

I think that the club will be linked with many 'high profile' players just to give fans hope but realistically what chance has the club have of attracting decent players? I would suggest very little chance. We do not have the appeal to many Championship, Premiership players but undoubtedly we could attract lower league players.
Not only that, based on the January window will the club spend money on decent players? I hope that I'm proved wrong because we do need a bit of quality with the addition of a proven goal scorer and a few players with pace.

Bullshit

If this is true it is just plain stupidity. The guy is coming to the end of his career and has one good year. Done sweet FA before that. Ipswich are just looking for some suckers to come along and buy him.
Hope it is all bullshit.

Experience has taught me that news headlines like this never come off, the real deals are done behind closed doors and will be announced when they are done.

I can't see this happening.

Priority should be getting someone in to provide service to the front players.

this or we need to change the formation and players in midfield we already have here like give Adeyemi a run in the team he's never been given a proper chance only a few sub appearences

Crazy he wasn't given a chance towards end of last season.

At 32 a bit too old for a big fee, 27 goals last season however he hasn't done very well prior to this season, begs the question can he do it again next season, The jury is out ?

The biggest problem Slade has in his mid 70's timewarp is constantly facing three players in the middle. He needs strength and power, sure. But he is desperate for players with pace and stamina if he is to continiue with his tactics. You have seen it all season. Teams with fast movement walk through us. It ties up players constantly chasing shadows, and when we finally win back the ball, we can't move forward fast enough as a team. That's why we constantly hoof the ball, and never score from open play.
Bringing in a top scorer won't change anything. In fact we have top goal scorers enough. They are just not utilised.

This sums up the situation pretty well. Our days in the sun have come to an end. Still, the Championship or the old second division as I like to think of it is not too bad. There are some big name clubs in it who are worth going to see and who knows, with a bit of luck we might even stay up.

32, come on I think we can do better than this. Not knocking his goal scoring efforts but hardly one for the future is he
