Why didn't he just go to Newcastle, still credit to him, people don't say doing a Cardiff anymore they say do a derby.

He would do a job down here.
Not sure he has the grit and killer instinct the team need though

Tan should bring him here at all costs. A fantastic manager and coach. He probably came to the end of the cycle with Derby and the next manager will not be inheriting a mess, my money is on Derby for promotion if indeed they get someone like like Clement in.

Steve McClaren’s future as Derby County head coach is set to be decided in the next 24 hours, according to Sky sources.

McClaren met with senior club figures Sam Rush and Mel Morris on Thursday but, contrary to reports, he has not been sacked.

Further discussions are planned for Friday, though, leaving a huge question mark over whether McClaren will still be at the club next season.

Steve McClaren's Derby future is hanging in the balance after showdown talks with chief executive Sam Rush.

The ex-England chief is still at the helm at the iPro Stadium but may not be for much longer after a stalemate meeting.

Both sides are now understood to be considering their positions. Despite publicly committing his Derby future a fortnight ago amid interest from Newcastle, club bosses are still far from happy about the saga.

And in their internal review this week involving the club's American owners, there was concern that McClaren's previous refusal to deny interest from the north east may have impacted their failure to make the play-offs. Mel Morris' expected elevation to the position of chairman is also complicating the matter.

Real Madrid assistant Paul Clement has been linked as possible replacement should the situation not be successfully resolved. Derby were top of the Championship table in February but a dramatic loss of form with just two wins in their last 13 matches saw them miss out on promotion.

McClaren joined the Rams in October 2013 and had restored his reputation in England following his disaster in charge of the national side, taking the East Midlands club to last season's play-off final.

When Derby beat us 2-0 at CCS I thought they were nailed on for promotion. It seems from reading reports that the link with Newcastle de-stabilised their season and they imploded.

Oh well at least we don't have to worry about speculation about our manager being targeted by a Premiership team ;)
