' DOUBLE SWOOP FOR TWO CARDIFF CITY STARS ? '

Sky Bet

Thurs 21st May 2015

Sky Bet Championship side Wolverhampton Wanderers are set to bid for Cardiff City duo Peter Whittingham and Joe Mason, according to reports in the Express and Star.

Striker Mason has previously been linked with a move to the Midlands side already this window with the price tag being rumoured to be around the £3 million mark.

However, reports also suggest that Whittingham could be heading back to the Midlands but with Wolves this time.

The 30-year-old midfielder has been with the Bluebirds for eight years and after one of his poorest seasons at the club, he may finally feel it is time to move back to his roots.

Despite Kenny Jackett’s side being linked with the pair, Cardiff City are reluctant to sell to their Championship rivals so the Gold and Blacks will have to splash out a fair amount of money to bring the duo in.

I would let them both go as long as the money received is spent on good young replacement s

Don't want to lose whittingham, he is still an exceptional player but is severely lacking confidence. A rejuvinated whitts with supporters encouraging him and not jeering him will tear this league apart.
I believe we will pay the price for this if it happens.

I'd let Mason go for anything over £1m to be honest. I'd personally assassinate Slade if he sold Whitts though.

There are loads of players we can sell to raise funds ,like Alf and Jones. We must hold onto both of these...essential for our future.

too many people hang onto the "whitts is a legend". Im afraid he is well past that and has continued to show that for the past 3 years.

He may occasionally put a good corner in but even those dead balls have gone. He plays 40 yards too deep and doesnt offer anything to our attacking options anymore.

For me EVEN if he stays, he needs to be on the bench and watch as a young, keen midfielder attacks

If Whits stays then he has to play in a different position. Personally I would take a punt and play him in a left-sided attacking role, the same role he had when scoring 20 league goals a few years ago.

However, if the plan is to play him again as a central midfielder then we should cash in.

Everybody has a price and a biggish fee for Whits would take the matter out of Slades hands. The only thing that worries me is if city were to move them both on it doesn't follow that the money would be given to Slade to replace them.

4-2-3-1 in the holding role picking the ball up from the centre backs to help us play the ball on the floor alongside gunnarson or dikgachoi would suit him IMO, with Mason as the attacking midfielder behind Doyle, Kennedy right and Harris or a new left winger

Yes, Whittingham didn't have a great season last campaign but which players did?

I'm a big Whittingham fan and the way some are talking about him past it. He's 30 years old, not 36! He still has a role to play and will still offer 10-20 assists this season. If we sell a player that can offer that much in terms of creating goals to a rival Championship club then we might as well stick a sign saying "We have no ambition and are destined for League One!" on the front gates.

I agree with a lot of your post but one of the reasons why he and the team didn't have a great season was our useless show in central midfield. To get the best out of Whits he has to be given a different role in the side. KBK-13 as made one suggestion and I personally still think he could do a job further forward and score a bucket full of goals, both options would be better than just repeating the same mistake we did in 40 odd games last season.

I would be concerned to see Joe Mason go. We need to keep this type of player
