Martyn, They took over 30,000 today and I believe they would get good crowds if they were a Championship Club.
They had record gates for Non League football this season :thumbright:

In the old days they were great rivals of ours :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

Martyn, I loved going to Eastville on the Old football Specials :thumbright:

I always thought they had just as much support as Bristol city, they always brought around the same over here. Having lived in north Bristol for a few years I always quite like them to do ok, they have just as much support within Bristol, the red lot just have more outside the city.

Memories of Stapleton Road and Eastville. Last time we played them was in the league cup, first season in our new stadium. They brought about 1,400 over midweek. Really pleased for them today. Well done the Gas!

Their support has never been huge, I don't know where people are getting this idea from?

I remember many visits to Eastville, mostly during the 70's. We'd usually bring 2,000+ ,mostly arriving on the soccer specials at Stapleton Rd; the average overall attendance would be between 8-10,000 (not including the promotion/Hemmerman season)
Bristol is not a big enough football city to support two sides successfully. Bristol City are the bigger of the two clubs, but you feel that Rovers are more of a close knit kind of club, with slightly less fickle fans than their red counterparts. Also, Rovers have always had a disproportionately good away following compared to their home gates.

I don't disagree with what you are saying .but we are in a diffrent era know and there's always a new genration of fans coming through should rovers get a new ground which has been in the planning for a long time and it will be there own ground I think then there support will grow .but they must start climbing the leagues Bristol a big city can you imagine them to in the premier league

I like Rovers too. I've never met a Cardiff fan that prefers City to Rovers.

They should get good crowds in Div 2 having enjoyed an average of over 6600 in the Conference. A fairly solid support even in the year they went out of the league. Strong community club, but not with the same resources as their neighbours in red. I wouldnt be too unhappy if Swindon went up in the Play offs. Just a short trip down the M4.

It was one of those days that as a football fan you live for ... short trip over the bridge, promotion already wrapped up, last game of the season, lovely sunny day!

Every previous time I had visited Eastville it had been on the soccer special, the police always had this game sewn up. However, given the sheer numbers of City fans that were inevitably going to travel to this game, the local police allowed for normal service train access to Bristol city centre. We arrived at Temple Meads and had a great morning/afternoon drinking.
Strangely, one thing that stuck in my mind from that day was a City fan wearing a Burberry jacket and Burberry Deerstalker hat. At that time, I don't think any of us had any concept of Burberry, this guy was obviously ahead of his time in the fashion stakes.
Anyway, I was outside sipping my beer with about 30-40 others, when out steps the Burberry sporting guy, who seemed like he was on the move elsewhere. A City fan (who I saw thrust a broken umbrella shaft in the mouth of a Bristol City fan on another separate occasion!) with a strong valley's accent, started to take the piss out of the way that Burberry lad was dressed ... Burberry lad then intimated with his hand in his pocket that he had a knife and if valley lad thought he was bluffing then take a step forward.
You could hear a pin drop - valley lad didn't quite know what to do and Burberry lad cooly made his exit with pride intact. None of us knew for sure if he did have a knife but he certainly looked calm - welcome to the dawn of casual culture! :D
