On the day Vincent Tan took over his fourth football club, he revealed he spotted the potential of a well-run club with passionate fans just an hour away from London by train

Cardiff City owner Vincent Tan has revealed details of his purchase of Belgian club KV Kortrijk, which involve him agreeing not to change the club's identity or day-to-day management.

The Malaysian billionaire, who has been the majority shareholder of the Bluebirds since 2012, has completed the purchase of his fourth football club, KV Kortrijk, who have just finished fifth in a Belgian Jupiler League that contains the likes of Anderlecht, Standard Leiege, Brugge and Gent.

Bluebirds chief executive Ken Choo has told WalesOnline that he has made several trips to the north west Belgium based club to carry out due diligence for Tan, prior to the deal being completed today.

Speaking on behalf of Tan, Choo said: “Tan Sri Vincent Tan is delighted to have signed an agreement to acquire shares in KV Kortrijk of the Belgian Pro League. He sees fantastic potential for growth at the Club and is looking forward to closely monitoring their progression.

“As you know, Tan Sri’s growing love of football has previously seen him make connections with FK Sarajevo of Bosnia and the developing LA City franchise in the USA – as well, of course, Cardiff City Football Club.

“I have personally visited the Kortrijk on several occasions prior to acquisition to perform due diligence on behalf of Tan Sri and have found that their owner Vincent Degryse, Chairman Joseph Alijns, CEO Patrick Turcq, the Club’s Board and management to be very respectable, committed and professional individuals. We look forward to working with them closely as we move forward.

“The club has shown great potential in its continued profitability in recent years, while there is a talented core of players at the club who are performing very well as a connected unit. The fans’ passion is also hugely appealing."

Now Tan has been in football for several years and owns three clubs other than Cardiff, he aims to shake off the infamy of changing Cardiff City's colours from blue to red in 2012 before turning them back again last January.

He has today moved quickly to reassure fans of his new Belgian club that he doesn't have any plans to change their identity.

A joint statement confirming Tan Sri’s acquisition of shares at KV Kortrijk has been released by his personal representatives and the club.

" Join statement in full "

"The Degryse family have signed an agreement with Tan Sri Vincent Tan regarding the sale of shares of KV Kortrijk.

“Both the Degryse family and Tan Sri Vincent Tan prioritise the local anchorage of the club and want to secure an ambitious Pro League side in Kortrijk for the long term. A number of clear arrangements have been made to ensure that the club maintains its identity, while the daily management of the club will not change. All existing agreements shall be honoured.

“Moreover, Tan Sri Vincent Tan is very happy with the incumbent management and the way the club is presently run. He has asked that the current management team remain to further build the side ahead of next season.

"Tan Sri Vincent Tan sees clear potential for further growth and shall visit the club shortly to give further explanations of his vision."

Wouldn`t his time have been better spent working on the problems facing CCFC , the club that pays his salary?

This^ they seem more concerned about a bunch of 3rbought... nothing clubs, than sorting out the mess at this club, makes you wonder how much money will be taken out of our club to support all these other clubs he's bought. Hope tan sells us to an owner who is 100% committed to us

Perhaps when VT visits them to give further explanation of his 'vision'', he could pop over here and further explain what exactly his vision is for us.

Its always amazing how people read into things differently.

It's just as possible that he has learnt that annoying the fans causes problems.

So he has learnt to say and do the right thing this time by bigging up their fans.

It doesn't mean he thinks differently about us and it isn't always about us.

non-EU players are allowed to play in Belgium without visa.

I would imagine Tan has visions of bring Malaysian players over, after 3 years they are entitled to Belgian citizenship.

I looked up the definition of the word passion and it is not what you are suggesting.

I think the word that reflects what you are suggesting is murder.
