Named Chesterfield manager

Dean Saunders was unveiled to the media as the new Chesterfield manager this lunchtime by Spireites chairman Dave Allen and chief executive Chris Turner.
Following Paul Cook's departure to join Portsmouth yesterday the club moved quickly to appoint a man who the chairman revealed had been on his radar for some time, also disclosing that Saunders was the only man interviewed for the job.

Allen said: "When Paul looked as though he was going to Portsmouth we had already identified our new manager.

"We haven't had a load of managers to interview, we spent an hour with Dean and we believed that he could do the job for us - and when I say do the job I mean get the club into the Championship and manage it there."

After the press conference, Saunders spent two hours speaking to the assembled media, which included members of the TV, radio and written media, before his photo roll call on the Proact Stadium pitch.

Finally finishing his other media unveiling duties, Saunders spoke to Player about his first frantic day in the Chesterfield hot seat.

"It's not been a tough day," said Saunders. "There are worse jobs aren't there? I've been lucky that football's given me everything I've got, I've always loved football and I love doing this job.

"Sometimes it's painful and I wonder why I'm doing it, but this is the easy bit: today and matchdays.

"It's recovering from defeat that is hard, when the players are not doing what you ask them to do having spent all week going over something and then not doing it on the Saturday, that's the frustrating bit."

Saunders also reserved a special message to the Spireites support, outlining the strength of his desire to be a success with the club.

He said: "My message to the fans is that the club's in a new place. I'm the manager and I'll give everything I've got and that's all you can do - try your best."

Hasn't done much at any club he has managed except he would of got Doncaster promoted if he didn't go to Wolves I think he will get Chesterfield there or around the top of League 1.

Not much though actually he has three relegations on his cv he couldn't keep Wolves, Doncaster or Crawley up it could go eithier way for Chesterfield.

Should have stuck at it at Doncaster, he doesn't seem to spend very long anywhere.
