" Another Spireite Targeted "
Wednesday 13th May 2015
Russell Slade raided Chesterfield to sign Eoin Doyle in January, and after firstly struggling at Cardiff the striker looks to have found his feet and looks like he'll be a good signing in the end, as long as he can build on his end of season form.
Reports on Wales Online say that Slade's looking at another player or two from the League 1 outfit as well with Sam Clucas a player of interest with him on his 'summer radar'
Another Chesterfield man that we're being linked with is Sam Morsy, who like Doyle could have left the Proact Stadium in January with us along with Sheffield Wednesday, Leeds and Wigan all linked with him at the time, but he opted to stay and try and help gain them promotion to the Championship.
I've no problem with us looking at players from a lower level, there's nothing to say that they'll not be successful - there's nothing to say that they would either! - but it's a little concerning that as much as we can't shop at Harrods any longer we're constantly shopping at another store, decide what this would be yourself, these days....

Plenty of clubs will have a few players good enough to make the step up so not worried by this. I'm sure there will be people moaning though because they didn't get promoted so their not good enough.

That's quite right but the trick is going to be identifying the right ones rather than the ones who will never progress beyond League 1 level.
Some people on here seem to think that Slade will be able to spot a load of lower league players all of whom will be able not only to make the step up from lower league football immediately but will be good enough to enable the team to challenge for the play-offs next season (which Slade has set as a target himself).
If he does that then I'll be the first to say I was wrong but I have absolutely no confidence in his ability to do that.

I agree, anyone who seriously believes there will be a jump of quality in having an influx of L1 players is baffling.
Players can achieve as much as we did last season on a fraction of their wages, and we may find that out. I am certainly not against slashing the wage bill and getting rid of players that underachieved badly.
