Ledley to replace whitts?

Sat May 09, 2015 3:21 pm

If and a big IF ledley was to sign for cardiff who would you think he would replace in the team it must be whitts surely?

For me replacing whitts in centre midfield with someone else should be number 1 priority if we to have any hope of promotion next season..

Opinions?

If Slade is here he will replace Gunnar. Definite upgrade on Gunnar.

Slade recipe

1 Goalie
2 full backs who defend first and just support the wingers
2 Stoppers centre half
1 ball playing midfielder
1 ball winning midfielder
2 tricky wingers who get the ball in the box
1 big man upfront
1 little man finisher

Joe is a ball winner/ box to box type

Jesus i dont think we need to make that many signings lol.
Do you think ledley is good enough defensively for us to replace gunnar and be paired with a more attack minded midfielder or would he be better playing the more attack minded midfielder?

For me we either need dikgachoi to step up and show hes good enough or we need to sign 2 centre midfielders to replace whitts and gunnar.

Would you be happy with that?

If that was the case mid table again for us next season imo. Both mid table championship players for me and the table reflected that.

That was different because we played a completely different system and formation. What i should say is if you put them in a 442 they are mid table standard, and times move on from 2 years ago they are up against younger better players in the championship than 2 years ago, they are past their best now imo certainly whitts is

I don't think Whitts is convinced he is a CM in a 442.

Great passer of the ball but apart from that is miles off the pace in other areas and i really dont see what else he offers the team as a cm in a 442

A lot to ask for, but some ideas:
1 Goalie - Hennessy
2 full backs who defend first and just support the wingers - Obita, Byrne
2 Stoppers centre half - Omeruo (loan), Maguire
1 ball playing midfielder - Ledley (could be used as one at this level, also good defensively)
1 ball winning midfielder - Henry
2 tricky wingers who get the ball in the box - Jarvis (loan), Albrighton
1 big man upfront - Have no idea
1 little man finisher - Gayle

Who said its all his fault. He is partly to blame for a poor midfield this year, him gunnarson and noone all not good enough and need to be replaced if we want to be better than mid table next year agree or disagree?

Agree that the midfield, like the rest of the team, has not been good enough for a promotion push. You didn't say its all Whittingham's fault, true. Personally, I still think that Whitts has a role to play for us. He can't win, really, because we all judge him by his past high standards. He's always comfortable on the ball, never hides, and keeps his head. I'm no tactician, but I hope that Whitts stays. Honestly believe that we would be worse off without him. Not play every game, perhaps, but kept in the squad. I know that we won the last two games without him, (I was at both), but he still has a role to play. Not sure that a completely new midfield would be the best option. We need some continuity, and Whitts, for me, is the best player to provide that.

Is that why they played in the team when we got promoted because they are mid table players? Or is it because we have a system that doesnt suit them and ancient tactics....

Well said - Whitts is by far the best ball player we have - Bluemagic is just biased! We need the skill of Whitts along with the ball winning of Gunnarson, the energy of Ralls and the trickery of Pilkington, feeding the front two of Mason and Doyle. If we can retain Marshall and Manga alongside Turner with Peltier and Malone we will have a reasonable chance next season. Bluemagic would have knocked Jimmy Greaves in the 60's - he wouldn't recognise talent if it bit him on the arse! :old:

I would say the only one being biased is you towards the quality of our midfield and attacking players you just named, most not good enough for a team to be challenging promotion. Id have doyle pilkington in my side maybe ralls in centre midfield but without replacing whitts gunnarson mason with quality we will be mid table again next season.

End of debate for me just my opinion we need a much better midfield next season and a clinical goalscorer to partner doyle if we are to challenge for promotion.

Year we got promoted they wasnt mif table standard because they played in a system which suited them. Our system now dosent suit them. Effectively making them mid table standard midfield players.
Slade isnt gonna change that system so they need to be replaced imo, you can call the 442 system ancient but not really because bournemouth won the league with that system but difference is they had players to suit it where as we dont. If he signs the right players to suit the system he wants to play we might have a chance otherwise its mid table again imo
