How Close We Nearly Came to Virtually Losing More than BLUE

Fri May 08, 2015 6:23 pm

How Close We Nearly Came to Virtually Losing More than just the Blue & Badge.

Many fans go on about that City were so near to going under in the High Courts.

But for me this was as bad or even worse in my eyes.

In 2012 Vincent Tan contacted Football League to change our name.

Tan Was told he could not and was advised also by senior staff in our club to withdraw it as fans would never accept it.

Later Tan was told that our fans would accept the change of colour.

Originally Vincent Tan did not even want the Bluebird on our badge.

Why Ive brought this up again, was we really dont realise how close we came to unrecognising our club. :o

Thankfully Tan was stopped from taking the Rebrand even further and what a turnaround,we are virtually back to our identity for next season :thumbright: :bluescarf: :ayatollah: :bluebird:

Yet people still want to thank the guy. It's laughable.

Its like a man wanting to batter you in the street but instead he only punches you. Rather than being angry at the fact that this man punched you, half of our fans are thankful they never got battered. You honestly couldn't make it up.

I wont set foot in the stadium until he's gone. He is the virus within, as far as i'm concerned. We will not see a happy, stable club or fan base whilst he is at the helm. Of that there is no doubt.

Very true Annis how far Tan was trying to take his rebrand.

How difficult would it have been to turn everything back, imagine if the name was changed ? Would we have got the return to blue, the bluebird and the name restored ?

I doubt we would have got it all.

Thankfully Tan never got his way totally.

I would have severed all ties with the club if a name change. The colour and badge change was horrific enough. Looking forward to starting next season without that shit hanging over us. :bluescarf:

But it didn't happen and now it's time to move forward

Here's a thought. What if we hadn't got relegated last year. There was talk he was going to make the stadium more read. Thankfully it didn't happen and there's only a little bit of red in the stadium.

Do we know what the name was getting changed too?

Wez, Funny you should say that,if were talking about the massive debt were currently in, you will bring Sams name straight in to the topic.
Is it time to move? Tan is still here and whilst he is many fans wont forgive or return.

Wez, this was so massive, it will never ever be forgotten, in some ways as you never witnessed it,you will never know how much it hurt fans and how bad it was.

Its part of our history now and like many other things in City's past,we still today talk about it,good or bad.

Another thought. What if we established ourselves as a premier league club. 33k fans every week. We would probably be red forever lol. He may have even changed all the seats after a few years. Then we would never have gone back to blue. I'm glad we got relegated as we managed to get it reversed.

Name change would of ended my following of the club end of. Thank f**k it didn't happen :bluebird:

Least we forget.

Tan changed us back to blue as a business decision NOT because he felt it was right think to do. Tan has got to do a lot more before we can move on.

From FB

Richard Locke I don't recognise our club now so I believe the damage has been done until tan has gone

Spot on. I don't know we clash so much on here because 99% of the time you are bang on the money. Tan did this because he lost the Sky money and wanted to claw back as much as he could from the fans. It was again all about him.

I will never forgive him. That ship has already sailed and I'd rather Sam back.

As a Malaysian and obviously therefore a foreigner who we have no understanding of, Tan was also rumoured to have wanted to kill every first born child within a 5 mile radius of the CCS, apparently it's an Asian thing  Thank goodness senior staff at the club were able to talk him out of it, stating the fans would never accept it   Isn't it time we all moved on

Wez supports the club the same as i or you do Annis. Unfortunate about the ban up in Chelsea, as was a lot of fans. But that doesnt make them any less of a fan as anyone else does it ?

But the past is the past - we know Tan got it wrong but why keep on bringing it up and keeping it alive
And is the latest reason fans will not come back now because they are waiting for Tan to leave before they return - well that never happened when we went back to blue so don't think it would happen if Tam left - think it's all about a general dissolutionment with modern football
