Fifa rankings: Wales rise one place to highest level of 21st

Wales have reached their highest-ever world ranking of 21st in the latest standings released by world governing body Fifa - without playing a game.

Chris Coleman's side move above Mexico, who lost their friendly match against the USA 2-0.
The other home nations remain the same with England 14th, Scotland 29th and Northern Ireland 42nd.

Wales' previous best was 27th, when Terry Yorath's Wales side just failed to reach the 1994 World Cup.
As recently as March 2011 they were as low as 116th.

Fifa world rankings top 10 - May 2015
1. Germany, 2. Argentina, 3. Belgium, 4. Colombia, 5. Brazil, 6. Netherlands, 7. Portugal, 8. Uruguay, 9. Switzerland, 10. Spain

Wales who beat Israel 3-0 in their Euro 2016 qualifier in March are second in Group B on goal difference behind Belgium, who they face at home in June.

The win in Haifa saw them rise 15 places from 37th to 22nd in the April rankings.

Great news this. I remember Chris Coleman was not a popular choice as Welsh Manager but has done a wonderful job in this qualifying campaign

Well, when Speed took over I wasn't overly optimistic considering he hadn't done much at club level, but obviously we saw what he's done to Wales and the impact its still having.

Perhaps Coleman is just more suited to International level rather than club?
