Cardiff City's forgotten midfielder Kagisho Dikgacoi to undergo personal boot camp to get him in shape for 2015/16 campaign
Dikgacoi signed from Crystal Palace last summer but has seen just 74 minutes of league action owing to injury and fitness problems
Cardiff City midfielder Kagisho Dikgacoi will undergo a personal Lake District boot camp to get him fit for the 2015/16 campaign after just 74 minutes of Championship action this season.
The plans for the South African international have been revealed by manager Russell Slade after a highly disappointing first season in which he featured just three times in all competitions following his move from Crystal Palace.
All of those games were last August with Dikgacoi playing the last 15 minutes against Wolves, the full 90 against Port Vale in the Capital One Cup and just under an hour against Fulham at Craven Cottage.
Since then he has been plagued by a series of muscle problems and though there were hopes he could return before the end of the season after playing for the development team, that never happened.
Bluebirds boss Russell Slade has now revealed that the club will send the 30-year-old to the Lake District with 'nothing, just a sweat jacket' in a bid to get him ready for the club's crucial six-week pre-season.
Slade said: "It’s been frustrating because we haven’t seen anything of him. Clearly, he had a major injury problem and also got himself into a situation where fitness was also an issue.
"We are working on that through the summer and he needs to take ownership for that.
"He is going to a boot camp in the north of England, the Lake District, in mid-June. No phones, no nothing. Just a sweat jacket and hard work.
"After going to the north he will report back to our training ground in the middle of June, earlier than the main group."
Dikgacoi himself recently signalled he saw his future with the Bluebirds despite the disappointment of his maiden campaign with the club.
And Slade says he wants him to be in a position where he can be competing for a place in his starting XI.
Slade added: "We need to control where he is at. It’s important when he joins us for that main six week pre-season period that he is ready.
"That is such an important period. I can’t stress that enough. Those six weeks are massive and we want players to do as many of those days as they can.
"Kagisho has to be involved fully in those six weeks. We are trying to ensure he gives himself every chance of competing for a first team spot."

You've got to hand it to Slade, he's getting our squad in for pre season training a week early so we're not playing catch up with fitness like last season. He's also giving Dikgacoi his own training regime to ensure he doesn't turn up for pre season like the usual unfit bloater the Crystal Palace fans previously warned us about (and have since been proven correct about). I love it!

He'd probably cost a hike to terminate his contract so we're making him do all this since we're stuck with him I guess

Yes, that's exactly what I was thinking. Could he do a job for us in the short term?
The same could, & might be asked of Kenwyn Jones & Javi Guerra, If,,,& when they return.

I could be wrong but he is definitely not on peanuts and why would he turn down a contract and drop a division? hmmmm
