Or lack of them. With Declan seemingly on the way out, O Sullivan and others not given the opportunity in a mediocre lower table run in, we have NO WELSH PLAYERS in our current squad.
I expect many will shoot me down on here for this, and many don't care who is in the team or where they are from as long as its a Cardiff thats doing well. Not me. Even it meant a little drop in quality of the squad to accommodate our Welsh players wether internationals or not, I would take that , that would make me happy, WHY? as my own are wearing our shirt for the capital city, and maybe its an old fashioned and blinkered view, but I like to thing that our Welsh players will run, tackle and sweat that extra mile for our club over our non Welsh players, romantic and deluded maybe, but hope you get the picture here.
I suspect Glasgow Rangers fans for example, would be up in arms if they had a match day squad with not a Scot in sight. Many top English teams often put out a side without their own on the pitch, the press jump on that! Thats right, Cardiff City FC, capital of Wales, dragon on the badge, once even rebranded to red for Wales' global identity, yet no Welsh players in its team. Tan could do a lot worse right now, than tap into the current euphoria, togetherness and passion of the Welsh teams current success, (which currently of course doesn't have a Bluebird in it) bring a bit of that into the club, give us a Welsh heartbeat so fans can reconnect and identify with our team again and Vinnie can justify having his beloved Dragon on our crest, which still has red on it yet no Welsh players on the pitch. Almost hypocritical. You see us with Welsh flags at away games, Men of Harlech etc no Welsh players on the pitch.
From Allchurch, Charles and Toshack through to Dwyer, Perry, Blake, Earnie, Koumas, Ramsey and Bellamy, these are the players we have connected with the most. Maybe David Marshall is the only one I currently connect with? As an example Lets see summer enquiries at least for Huws, Matthews, Eardley, Hennessey, Myhill, Gunter, Collins, Vaughan, Lawrence, Kanu, Dummett, King, Collison etc. I feel real pride when I see ex Bluebirds in a Welsh jersey, even more when they are current. Even 3 or 4 like the Jacks have would make me happy.
All this is yet another reason why I have still not renewed, not turning my back, still considering, but along with the many issues I have that are causing many of us to delay (the lack of atmosphere/singing sections, Russell Slade and his tactical old fashioned naivety, debt to equity, the missed opportunity to speak to a willing Tony Pulis and so on) this is unnecessarily another one.
For a lot of this season I have been more interested in our development and younger teams results and progress, with many of our Welsh lads. However their breakthrough opportunities into the 1st team doesn't appear on the agenda despite having nothing to lose in this awful run in.

Good post, I've been saying this for a while. What better way to install some real pride back into our club than to support our local boys, like you say they are always fan favourites

Agree with what you raise. If Athletic Bilbao can manage a squad of Basque players and play very competitively in La Liga, Cardiff should look to them for inspiration!

Totally agree, would love to see more home grown players. It's important to get young Welsh players playing regularly and with the national team doing well now is the time to scout the youngsters and get them involved
