Young fans enjoy fun and football at Cardiff City Festival of Sport

Bluebirds gave out 9,000 tickets to schools and take-up was more than 5,500

Cardiff City threw open their doors to children for their final Championship home fixture of the season - and attracted an extra 5,500 spectators.

Children and their parents were treated to free funfair rides and entertainment during a Festival of Sport event in the away supporters car park and at the rear of the family stand on Saturday.

Around 100 Blackpool fans made the trip and were accommodated elsewhere.

It was the start of a big City push to attract young fans to matches over the next few seasons.

The Bluebirds gave out 9,000 tickets to schools associated with the club’s Community and Education Foundation and the take-up was more than 5,500.

“This was a Cardiff City thank you to those who supported our Foundation Day earlier in the year and over the course of this season,” said a club spokesman.

The funfair was provided by Norman Sayers Amusements, while children were invited to take on challenges and win prizes at a number of celebrity sports stations.

They were able to try sports including cricket, basketball, boxing and football with Cardiff City first team players who weren’t in the matchday squad and under-21 players on hand to help.

Food was also available, while a number of children, accompanied by a relative, earned the chance to compete in a goal-scoring competition at half-time.

The winners went to the home dressing after the final whistle to meet manager Russell Slade and his players.

whatever the club d some will slag it off - for me it was a good idea, and I for one would welcome this move next season.

Just one request - can I have a child-exclusion zone round me please when the lino messes up an offside, or the ref has his hands on his dick and his mind in China, as my blood pressure can't cope with having to keep my language in check

well done City
