As is tradition at the end of the season's final home game, the Cardiff City players took to the pitch to thanks the fans for their support. The problem was, most of the 26,357 that officially attended must have left
On a day when an impressive 26,357 was announced as the official attendance, no more than a few hundred fans stayed back to applaud the Cardiff City players on their annual walk around the pitch.
The actual attendance was, in reality, far fewer than the 26,000+ quoted and laughs rang around the stadium as it was announced but the sea of blue seats that greeted the players as they re-entered the pitch after their post-match teamtalk was the biggest example yet of fans voting with their feet at the Cardiff City Stadium.
To be fair to Russell Slade's players, they kept their end of the bargain on the day by winning the match and taking the trouble to thank those who did remain, before heading off for their annual awards do.
And, the hardcore fans who did stay, gave a warm applause to the players who had taken the trouble to come back out. But with struggling season ticket sales, it's hard to imagine how many fans will applaud the Bluebirds off at the end of next season, unless things improve.
Another conspicuous absentee on the pitch was manager Russell Slade, who faced calls for his replacement as the game drew to its lethargic conclusion.
His decision not to go out was greeted with a mixed reception by two of our columnists on social media.
