Massive Improvement In Midfield Today

Sat Apr 25, 2015 7:58 pm

I don't know why but the midfield today looked the best it has all season. At least until Ralls went off. Some of his creative play was sublime. I think his partnership with Gunnar will be pivotal for our success last season. Gunnar MOM for me!

Gunnar was great but Blackpool were so poor it's tough to really draw anything from it. Whitts would have done a lot of damage to them today.

Bloody hell must have been watching a different game to me. Gunnar kept trying to do stupid things all game, lost a ball alot through that, his flicks he was doing were terrible and only looked to pass back, made a couple good runs and pass' but no more definitely not MOM that was Doyles and not for the 2 pens he scored. And Ralls passing was also off, keeps trying to outside of the foot chip balls but had not got injured so early might have been different. Difficult to judge him.

Am I right in saying that Whitts has only missed two league games this season, Rotherham away and today?

Both of which games we've won.

He must be gutted to have missed the opportunity to play against two of the weakest teams in the league.

its simple - no whitts! We didnt need a sweeper today, Gunna had more room to move and was everywhere tbh.

there are a few on here thaty satill think the sun shines from whitts arse - Im afraid its him thats bumbled our midfield this year. He plays too deep and makes Gunna look like a tw*t constantly having to fill the hole that Whitts is leaving playing so far back.

Whitts has been great for us no doubts, but I think we have to move on to have any chance

Whites plays too deep, like the manager has zero say in that

disagree , Whitts is the best midfielder at the club but is constantly played out of position and the hoofball tactics don't suit him ,Malky ruined Whittingham when he put him in that holding role after his highest scoring season

Which position fo you think he should play? Maybe Goalie?

I thought O'keefe was playing the same role as Whitts.

He was by far the deeper of the 2. He looks a nice neat player definitely a central midfielder. Whether he is more than league 1 is up for debate.

A bit weird really, seeing as the midfield were awesome, we conceded 2 goals against a team nailed on for relegation to L2 and only scored one goal from open play...... :?:

Where was Whittingham for the first goal? Orlandi cut in and Whitts was nowhere to be seen, give him all the time in the world

What ? no in his position he was under Dave Jones not the holding role Malky put him in and he's been in ever since where he has lost abit of confidence

Hardly a ringing endorsement on the performance ....... against the poorest team in the championship
The lack of quality and composure on the ball in the final third of the pitch is alarming
Things improved slightly when Pilkington came on
We were marginally better than Blackpool and thats about it , that game yesterday took me back to our lower league days

No I agree the overall performance wasnt a lot better but I did think there was an improvement in midfield and I happen to think a Ralks & Gunnarsson partnership could be promising, maybe with Adeyemi included too. However the final third is lacking I agree. Blackpool might have had the lowest points tally in the league but they weren't the worst side I've seen at the CCS this season, Charlton and Birmingham were worse. Also Blackpool have beaten us once this season already.

Massive improvement? I don't think so, my granny could have played as well against this Blackpool side, and if whitts was playing in a forward midfield role where Ralls was playing Saturday, then he would have scored a hat full of goals. Whitts has played better when he plays where he should be (Forward) and has played a lot better when Mason, and Doyle are up front, and making runs, which other forwards have not done this season all this rubbish about Whitts being finished, shows how much fans know about football
