We played so much better without him holding us back today!

Did we really play that much better? I thought we were poor in ball retention with the ball switching between the teams very quickly, and not down to good pressure.
Shame Ralls went off though, been hoping to see him being given a run in his proper position.
IMO though, we don't have the midfielders that suit a 4-4-2

I, like 18K others haven't got a clue what Slade is trying to do.
I believe only Pilkington is genuinely in his natural position. Noone,Gunnar,Fabio or Whitts are not really 442 players
I believe Whitts and gunnar can play in a modern 4231 as the 2, but the 4 in front must be capable of getting the ball and going past players and scoring. We have the slowest front line I can remember.

Nail on the head with last paragraph. Whitts is great and getting the ball deep off defenders and playing a simple pass, keeping things ticking over but is also capable of switching play early. Our problem is we are short of movement (Mason and Doyle have improved this with dropping off or running the channels but I'm not overly convinced by the 2 of them)
Our formation doesn't suit our players. Pilkington would be far better as a further forward winger too IMO and is also able to beat a man. 4-2-3-1 or 5-3-2 suit us much better

I think he's being sarcastic
