£7m-rated Blackburn striker Rudy Gestede could be in line for a big money summer move but his former club will not reap the rewards after failing to agree a sell-on clause when he joined Blackburn for just £200,000

Swansea City are being heavily linked with a £7m move for former Cardiff City striker Rudy Gestede - but we can reveal the Bluebirds wouldn't get a penny after failing to agree a sell-on clause when they sold him to Blackburn for just £200,000.

Gestede has been a big hit since switching to Ewood Park in January 2014 after failing to establish himself as a first-team regular in the Welsh capital.

The Benin frontman has scored 20 goals in 42 matches this season, including four in his last two games, and is on the radar of a number of Premiership clubs.

Hull and Crystal Palace both registered interest in January, with Swansea now emerging as another possible destination when the summer transfer window opens.

A number of reports in the London media claim Garry Monk has put Gestede among his top targets as he looks to fill the void left by Wilfried Bony's £28m departure to Manchester City.

Cardiff are currently in the midst of major cost-cutting measures that have seen big name players leave the club or be loaned out, with Russell Slade slashing the first-team wage bill by £12m.

But, as Slade looks set to be limited to more low-budget signings this summer, we can reveal a potential sell-on windfall from a big money move for Gestede is not a possibility.

It is not the first time Cardiff have failed to secure a sell-on clause for a departing player, Aaron Ramsey another who will not generate a penny for the Bluebirds if he ever leaves Arsenal, who he joined for £5m in 2008.

Conversely, the Bluebirds did receive a substantial fee from Ross McCormack's £11m move from Leeds to Fulham last summer after insisting on a 15% sell-on fee when the Scottish striker joined Leeds in 2010.

Gestede returned to Cardiff City Stadium to break Bluebirds hearts in February as he bagged a last gasp equaliser to deny Russell Slade's men a much-needed home win in a 1-1 draw.

The 26-year-old started just 10 league matches for Cardiff after joining in the summer of 2011, and he made just three Premier League appearances, all from the subs bench, before joining Blackburn.

But he could well be given his chance to shine in the top flight next season as he fulfills the potential he showed during his time in South Wales.

One season wonder? I disagree. Always rated him.

This is a shocking revelation (but probably should be no surprise), to have let him go cheaply AND failed to have a sell-on clause. Bloody typical of the dealings in the recent past!! Rudy will be good wherever he goes, but to see him go there will be extra annoying for the majority of BLUEBIRDS fans.

I liked him for us , strong in the air and always gave 100% , not the most gifted technically but played to his strengths and was a bit of an handful for central defenders .......

He was a surprise choice in the starting line up in the cup final against Liverpool and did well for us in that game

Only Malky knows why he let at the time a very useful sqaud player who cost us nothing , to leave the club ...... and then go and spend £10 million in total on a very limited player like Cornelius
