Swansea Targeting Blackburn ace

Thursday 23rd April 2015

Cardiff City striker Rudy Gestede has emerged as a summer target for rivals Swansea City, according to the Daily Mail.

The Blackburn Rovers striker has rediscovered his scoring touch since joining the Lancastrians from the Bluebirds in 2013, and is the club’s leading marksman this campaign with 19 goals in all competitions.

The Frenchman’s form has attracted interest from the top flight, and Rovers have slapped a £7 million price tag on the forward.

Swans manager Garry Monk has made signing a frontman a priority at the end of the season, following the sale of star striker Wilfried Bony to Manchester City in January.

Issues

But Blackburn face their own problems on the striking front when the season ends, and were placed under a transfer embargo in December for breaching Financial Fair Play rules.

Manager Gary Bowyer was therefore unable to strengthen his squad in January, which has proved costly with the club set to miss out on the play-offs and endure a third successive year in the Championship.

Striker Jordan Rhodes also continues to attract interest, with Middlesbrough, Derby County and Nottingham Forest all rumoured to be ready to line up lucrative bids.

Targets

While Gestede is high on Swansea’s agenda, other attacking targets have also been placed on their shortlist.

Anderlecht striker Aleksandr Mitrovic is believed to be one of those, who has scored 22 goals in all competitions for the Belgian club this season. The 20-year-old also scored in the dramatic 3-3 draw against Arsenal in November.

A left-back is also being targeted, with Leicester City’s Jeffrey Schlupp believed to be one of those who could make the move to the Liberty Stadium when the summer transfer window opens.

Marseille winger Andre Ayew is another player who is believed to have attracted interest from Monk. Ayew is also a Ghanaian international, and scored against Germany at last year’s World Cup.

Jacks are looking at a £6 million bid for him. They could have had him from us for just £300k

Can't say it would bother me, TBH ;)

I saw the 'value' in Gestede whilst he was here and was sorry to see him sold. However, I'm not so sure he would have been 'the' difference for us this season and I'm not too sure he would hack it in the Premiership

I think most will be bitter because we sold him (in retrospect) very cheaply and without a 'sell-on' clause

But in the great scheme of things, I couldn't dislike the Jacks (actually their egg-deserting fans) anymore than I do already, so no big deal IF it were to happen!
