Cardiff City appeal to disgruntled fans as speculation mounts over alarming sub-4,000 season ticket sales

Monday 20 April 2015

By Terry Phillips

http://www.walesonline.co.uk/sport/foot ... ns-9079794?
The Bluebirds insist more than 4,000 season tickets have been sold despite rumours, but fears persist that the club could take a major financial hit this summer,City will not give the exact figures sold.

Cardiff City are appealing to supporters on season tickets

Cardiff City have issued a rallying call to their fans amid mounting suggestions more and more will vote with their feet and refuse to follow Russell Slade’s Bluebirds next season.

The club have confirmed season ticket sales are down, but maintain speculation saying barely 4,000 have been sold for the 2015-16 campaign is wide of the mark.

City’s hierarchy will not talk about specific figures and while season ticket sales are down, the Bluebirds are hoping a big finish to the 2014-15 Championship campaign will improve figures.

Many supporters who bought their seats last summer have already stopped going, while strong rumours suggest sales for next season are currently below 4,000.

If the 4,000 figure is true the Bluebirds would have brought in only around £1.2m in sales so far and it would be the lowest at this stage for almost a decade.

Sources at the club won’t talk about figures, but insist far more than 4,000 have already been sold and applications are still arriving.

They will only confirm that sales are lower than at the same stage last season, saying: “It’s club policy not to release figures while the sales window is open.”

There seems no doubt, though, that sales are far below what Cardiff City would have hoped for by this stage.

In better times a sale of around 13,000 would be reasonable.

The deadline for seat reservations has gone, but season tickets are still available at the same price.

Only two years ago, when City were playing Premier League football, there were 22,500 season ticket holders plus 5,000 on a waiting list.

The Bluebirds currently have around 16,500, but it’s clear many will, at best, wait to see how manager Russell Slade’s men finish this season.

How can Cardiff City's uninspiring, fractured and deeply unattractive football possibly be described as progress?

It’s been clear that many season ticket holders have not been going to games with official crowd figures far higher than the numbers attending matches.

A decision to mothball the new Upper Ninian Stand area for next season has already been taken, but the club are still hoping a big finish to this season will result in more season ticket sales.

A Club spokesman said: “We are extremely grateful to all who have shown their support and loyalty by renewing season tickets before the March 31 seat reservation deadline.

“We are committed to making 2015-16 a success, which can only be achieved with the backing of our valued supporters. Bigger crowds generates a better match atmosphere, which in turn helps the players.

“The sales window is still very much open for those wishing to renew or buy their first season ticket with options available to suit all budgets.

“We look forward to many more joining us with a 2015-16 season ticket over the next few months.”

Season tickets can be bought online, in person at the stadium or by calling the club offices on 0845 345 1400.

Cardiff City FC with barely 4000 season tickets sold for next season
BY SAM ROURKE ⋅ APRIL 20, 2015 ⋅

There is turmoil at Cardiff City after it has been revealed that the Welsh outfit have barely managed to sell 4000 season tickets for next year, claims Wales Online.

The Bluebirds have endured a mediocre season on the pitch

Russell Slade’s Cardiff City have endured a tough season in the Sky Bet Championship, with the club currently sat in 13th place in the division.

There is seemingly much disillusionment around the Cardiff City stadium this season, with the club falling way under the expectations expected at the start of the campaign.

The news that barely 4000 season tickets have been sold will not be good news for the club’s financial matters, with this set to be the lowest amount sold in the club’s recent history.

The Bluebirds drew 0-0 with Neil Harris’ Millwall last Saturday, in a game that was devoid of much entertainment or action.

The result left the Lions four points from safety in the Championship with just three league games to go.

Get Slade out and improve the match day experience then. The ball is in the clubs court.

As much as it pisses me off and frustrates me, I can see why the sales are so abysmal. All tan needs to do is lower the prices a bit, bring in a young and upcoming manager, or a manager with experience and the sales should rise.

And make it £50 for under 16's to sit anywhere in the ground

If Cardiff city want the fans to come back then they need to come up with a package which includes...
1=A decent manager who has experience in the top divisions.
2=A decent squad who actually play decent football instead of this boring dross being served up to the fans.
3=A decent match day experience, involving trying to get some atmosphere in the ground.
4=An end to this over zealous stewarding, who are even throwing fans out for looking at the away fans!!
5=More knowledge about the clubs intentions instead of this cloak and dagger shit(i.e hearing nothing)
If we had a strong squad playing attractive football then the atmosphere would take care of it's self, hard to find anything to sing about watching this crap. This club thought we needed them more than they needed us,now it's dawned on them that they actually need us so badly(we are there life blood).

Slade Out... Simple I'm not renewing as long as he's there and I've been going 25 years plus before the smug people start with their 1001 reasons not to renew bollocks.

I'm getting angry watching his mundane, no passion, shit football with no plan and will not pay for something that makes me come away feeling angry. f**k off Slade.

I'm afraid many won't come back until they're sure we have a manager capable of at least making us challenge for the top six.

If not, then prices need to come down. £400+ is a lot of money for people, and can they justify it going by the football this season?

I'll likely renew but you can see why others aren't.

Its a game of brinkmanship, fans vs Tan. Sadly its been that way for the last 3 years.

Subtle debt/finance undertones in that report, tough, you created this vinnie, don't tug on the heart strings now.

I don't care

I have been a supporter since 1965, and am a current season ticket holder. Frankly, this season has been unwatchable for football lovers. I hope to see a good Development game tonight, though. See you there?

I was never renewing even if we somehow got promoted but I can see why fans have had a guts full. Slade hasn't got clue, its hard working going to watch us, its supposed to be enjoyable but its not.

I certainly do remember it and it is the VT off-the-cuff '20% can go' & 'what more can they do' quote that for me revealed his true attitude. Now its returned to firmly bite him and the board's Emperor's New Clothes arses.

So as per usual I renew our ST's early and then find out via the grapevine that our block is closing! No email/letter/call/apology from the club advising of this. And if I wasn't in close contact with the club for other reasons, I still wouldn't have found out. And there has been still no communication from the club regarding this change to me and the other renewed ST's who sit around us and will have to move. I'm not entirely sure exactly what the relevant directors and management expect in terms of ST & even walk-up take-up if even die-hard fans are treated this way?

There is not so much a gap between the club and its fans, it's now more of a chasm. I'll always be close to the club as many of us on here will be but I still very much feel like a 'customer' & who at the moment is very much taken for granted.

Ironically, it would appear that the '20%' that VT so smugly said 'can leave' are actually the life-blood supporters who have renewed!

The club is being run like a sophomore university project and the powers that be have presided in the biggest lost opportunity in this magnificent clubs history.

Get it sorted, starting with the appointment of Mark Warburton. :thumbright:

Darren above are the feelings of thousands od old school from the 70''s, 80's and 90's. We've just had enough of the crap from the lcub, the pathetic management from top to playing side, and this latest numpty in charge of football is a clown.

Time to waste my thousands of pounds per year on myself for a change, no glory hunter, very proud to be cioty through and through but not watching that crap anymore by funding their summer holidays.

It's the club staff I feel sorry for, no doubt cuts will take place if Tan is not willing to cover the wage bills and estimates of attendances next season will also have a knock on effect for staff numbers.

It's clear that the club has to regain the hearts and minds of it's supporters, they have started that process by reversing the rebrand, they now need to take further steps by listening to what supporters want. i.e open dialogue between the club and supporters, a sensible and believable 3 or 5 year plan. The club needs to relax their attitude to their own supporters inside the stadium and encourage fans to create an atmosphere, instead of treating everyone like wannabe hooligans or 5 year old kids. The vast majority want to stand, stamp their feet, clap and sing for gods sake!
The club needs to seriously make a change at management level if they are serious about trying to get promoted and providing something resembling entertaining football. Slade has been a success in steadying the ship and getting the wage bill down, but that is as far as it goes. He has shown that he is completely limited in his managerial skills and in a footballing sense, his tactics are taking us backwards. Let's now move on, before it's too late. We don't want another wasted summer transfer window, to find ourselves 8 weeks into the season with Slades team playing an awful brand of football and bottom to mid table, with crowds continuing to fall and the inevitable sacking of the man.
The supporters and ticket sales need a boost and a new, ambitious manager brought in at the end of this season would achieve that. karl Robinson, if available, would be my choice. I would even consider Jimmy Floyd Hasselbank, a gamble yes, but one worth taking IMO.
On a last point, I really do not understand supporters who will not renew because the football is dire at this moment? you renew for the whole season, things can change quickly in football. I don't want to hear supporters saying they have been for over 30 years and will not renew now, because of the dire football? We have been far worse over those years, I suspect like many of our so called loyal supporters that you have always picked and chosen games and have had periods of not missing games in promotion winning seasons? That's the reality of it for most.

Cardiff City £365
taking the piss to watch shite football and no atmosphere.
time to stop being Muggs and taken for granted.

But add travel costs to that and you'll find it works out a touch more expensive! !!

How much is a ticket for the brazilian league? Coz you have as much of a chance for me to travel there every tuesday and saturday than going to germany or spain.

That is the problem for the english FA, Not cardiff city! !

What are you talking about? - he's not suggesting going to those countries to see football ... he's merely making a price comparison.

I went on Saturday for the first time in a few months,it was that bad I left at half time, I ve seen city play in every division but that performance was one of the worst I ve seen,we might not have had gifted players back in the lower division, but everyone was committed and give their all for the team,I cant say that about anyone on Saturdays performance,it seems to me the life has been sucked out of the club,it ve no idea how they are going to get the good feeling back

I'm getting angry watching his mundane, no passion, shit football with no plan and will not pay for something that makes me come away feeling angry. f**k off Slade.

Did you renew when we were red? :bluescarf:
