Mediterranean migrants - 'Major' rescue operation underway

A major rescue operation is under way after a boat carrying up to 700 migrants capsized in the Mediterranean Sea, the Italian coastguard has told the BBC.

Awful tragedy, but can the EU do anything to stop it happening again ?

No as it is these people's countries causing problem? if EU actually did something can you imagine how many would want to come over? Be 3 or 4 times as many! problem lies in the countries who are forcing their people out and making the problem in 1st place.

I read somewhere that these migrants pay €1000 per person, someone, somewhere is making a mint!
