Cardiff City assistant manager Scott Young has urged fans to stick with the Bluebirds after another dire spectacle at Cardiff City Stadium.

Young was keen to praise the players' battling qualities in the 0-0 draw with Millwall, but he admitted the home side had been left frustrated by their desperate visitors.

Millwall are fighting for their Championship lives right now and this goalless draw left them four points from safety with three games left to play this season.

Russell Slade’s Bluebirds never managed to get into top gear and a reasonable first-half display gave way to a poor showing in the second period which should have seen the Lions take all the points.

Young, who attended the post-match press conference in place of Russell Slade, admitted the visitors’ game plan had worked.

“Obviously it was not a great spectacle. Millwall came with a game plan to stop the fluency, slow the tempo down and do everything they could really to make it a niggly affair. They put a battle in and earned a point so credit to them,” said Young.

“We did not really achieve what we were aiming for in the game, but we tried. I don’t think Millwall deserved the three points, definitely not. I thought we edged the first-half and created some chances, but to give them credit they were probably the best team in the second-half.

“But we are frustrated that we did not really get going in possession of the football. It was difficult for us to get a flow in the game. It was our fifth game in 14 days with the same group and we looked a bit leggy out there. A few players looked tired particularly in the second-half. But we came away with a clean-sheet and we go again in the next game.

"We will be looking to get the three points against Blackpool next. We need to finish the season with as many points as possible and the players know that. They are up for it. They stuck at it against Millwall and came away with a point.

“Fans are as frustrated same as we are and rightly so. But Millwall came with a plan to spoil things and they achieved that. They stopped us getting on the ball and getting the possession we have been getting over the last few weeks.”

Young, a former fans' favourite when a player at Cardiff, believes Cardiff will get things right under Slade, despite admitting the current 'transition' period is proving difficult.

“We try to give the fans something to smile about every time we go out on the pitch, that is what football is all about, but it also about doing things right, keeping clean-sheets and making sure we are sold defensively,” added Young.

“I’m as big a fan of this club as anyone, it’s been my life. We are all working as hard as we can behind the scenes to make things happen. Everyone wants to be playing free-flowing football and hopefully we will get there.”

“There’s been a transition this season with players coming in and out. The club spent a lot of money over the last few years, but it has to sustainable. The bottomless pit is not there.

"We need to make sure we can stand on our own feel as a club. It’s good for us going forward, but in the meantime, we also need to put a squad together that can perform at the top end of the Championship. It’s difficult, but we are looking forward to it.

Millwall came with a plan to "stop the fluency"

Yet more comedy gold from the management team.

And where was Russell today reminding us of the progress being made and how we won a battling point against a quality team who made life difficult for us.

So much shit comes out of the club nowadays it's unbelievable.

Someone tell Scott Young that the last time the club gave me "something to smile about" was when him and Gabbidon got relieved of their caretaker manager roles.

But then Slade got appointed and the smile soon disappeared!
